In my former house I was able to get connected to my sister's Wi-Fi router with not much of a trouble considering that my laptop is quite old already because I bough this laptop since 2017, my very first laptop and it still works although the camera got busted for some reason and the screen has lines on top and at the bottom but I can still use it regardless. It is just when I use a window full screen, the tabs of the browser gets hidden because of the lines of my laptop's screen, I just deserve a better screen for my purposes.

Anyway, in the former house the only barrier of the Wi-Fi's signal was my room's plywood wall and my sister's wall of their house because from my laptop's vantage point, the signal will only pass though the wall, then the open window, and then my room's plywood wall. That is why my laptop can get a better connection before.

However, it is different now because the wall of my bedroom is not only concrete but they have made it thick with concrete plaster to hide the column in the corners of this bedroom. Added to the barrier was the concrete wall of the house, and then there is a TV too which again adds to black the signal.

So my laptop can only know that there is a Wi-Fi signal outside, it can even detect the signal from some of my neighbors but it cannot connect anymore because the signal is so weak. Thankfully I can make use of my Smartphone and use it as an extension so that I can connect my laptop to it.

The signal which my Smartphone is getting depends upon where I would place it. Now I had placed it near my window because it is one place that I can get a better signal from my Sister's Wi-Fi, maybe because it is surrounded my aluminum panels which my built-in cabinets are made-out of but there is a certain place there where it can get a good signal.

For as long as my connection is stable, meaning the pages are loading good enough and the YouTube videos are not lagging , then I am already happy because I am only doing basic stuffs on my laptop like writing, watching videos, listening to music via YouTube as well and that's just about it. That is why I do not need a super fast connection because for one thing I can still wait if the upload is not that snappy because for as long as it is going to get finished soon, then I am already ok with it because after all I have a free internet connection.

So now my Smartphone is acting as a secondary router which is why I have to charge it every now and then although the battery is lasting long. I do not charge it all the way to the full 100% nor letting it discharge to more than 38% so that I can be able to prolong the use of my Smartphone's battery and it works because as of now my battery health is at 99% considering that I am already using it for more than a year now.

When I do charge my phone I would also place a plastic bag with water and put it on the screen. In that way the heat will dissipate to the water. I just have to make sure that the food grade plastic bag (without the handles) is securely tied so that the water will not spill out.

There is also a setting on the battery management that makes you set limits for how much the battery should charge, I just set mine for 80%. If the charge limit is reached, then the charging will stop and you will here a sound indication that the limit was triggered. However, it doesn't work 100% of the time so I am just setting a timer for how long a charge should last so that I can be notified if the charge is near the limit. If the timer alarm had sounded and the batter is not yet reaching its limit, I will just wait a little bit before unplugging the charger off from my Smartphone.

For now, that will be my setup for connecting my laptop to the Internet and I am considering to buy an Ethernet cable so that I can get a better connection without spending on my own Internet so that I can save some money which I can use for other things.

The reason the WiFi signal is blocked is the concrete wall. You can try replacing it with a better router that can penetrate walls, although it may be more expensive.

Yes I might try to connect via Ethernet cable if it is feasible but I think it will work. My sister's router only uses Wi-Fi 4.

Connecting with an Ethernet cable is feasible, but isn't the speed of WiFi 4 too slow?

The router has a fiber connection but the router can only transmit Wi-Fi 6 is although with not much obstructions like I have before, you can have a very low latency response, it is just now that I have a problem with the wall.

The router can be upgraded but it will still be behind thick concrete walls so I guess the wired connection from the router is the best for me.

Yes, a wired connection is the best option, as it doesn't affect internet speed and has low latency.
