Being Prepared For What You Seek
A few years back, something happened that taught me the need of preparation. A friend applied for a particular job that he saw that he loved. The job required a particular skill which he did not have at the moment, but he went ahead and applied for it. He thought to himself that before they call him for interview, he would have acquired the skill. He kept procrastinating until they called him. He could not acquire the skill, so he was not prepared for it, and that was how he lost out of it. How prepared are you for the opportunity that you are looking for? What you have to understand is that your preparedness has to meet with opportunity in order for success to be achieved.

I have heard a lot of people saying that "someone is lucky" because they have achieved one level of success or the other. But what they do not know is that some of the people they call lucky simply found a way to cash into opportunities with their preparedness. Life will always give you a moment of chance but it is what you do with it that will determine if you will become successful or not. There is an unseen foundation that turns mere opportunities into excellent achievement; and the foundation is preparation. You can only excell in what you have extensively prepared for.
As a student for example, if exam is approaching and you are hoping on luck or on chance to have an A in the exam, it may not work out for you. At the very best, you may just pass the exam, but not in flying colour. However, if you have prepared extensively for it and have studied hard, it will automatically place you on the pathway of academic excellence. When the exam comes, you will go in with the confidence that you have prepared well for it. You cannot achieve greatness in life if you base your life entirely on chance or on luck. You have to prepare and be ready for what you seek for. A soldier does not wait to get trained on the day of battle, rather he keeps preparing by training extensively for it. If life gives you the chance you have been hoping for, will you be able to take advantage of it with your level of preparedness?
It is worthy to note that most times, opportunities do not announce themselves with a microphone, rather they will come as chances, little decisions, etc. If you are not prepared for them, they may slip out right before your eyes. But if you equip yourself with the right skill, discipline, and the right mindset, you will be able to take advantage of even the very little opportunities that others may not see. There are people who have not unlocked the greatness that is in them, not because they have not been given chance nor because they do not have opportunities, but because they have not prepared themselves well enough for the opportunities. Preparation gives you an edge on the pathway to success.

There are lots of ways to prepare for what you seek. These include going for more knowledge and acquiring more skills. The more you learn and grow in knowledge, the easier it will be for you, not just to spot opportunities, but to take advantage of them. You will agree with me that it will be easier to do what you already have knowledge of doing. For example, if an opportunity comes up for an IT role which requires programming and you are already a programmer and developer, it will be easier for you to flow along than someone who knows nothing about it. As you are hoping for opportunities, do not just sit and wait, but keep acquiring relevant knowledge because it will help you when what you seek arrives. You should also prepare your mindset by feeding it positivity. Also make good friends that will help you to see opportunities.
When you are prepared for something, even if it does now work out as planned, you will still have something to learn from it. Preparation also has a way of turning negative situations into stepping-stone. There are sometimes that what appears to be an end is just a test to know if you are truly ready for the bigger thing.
