The Fall Equinox 🍂

So, I made a bundt cake today. I have always had wanted to make one. Autumn vibes somehow always come paired with baking, an evening slowly settling in, the house filling with the aroma of something sweet in the oven. Maybe it is the shape. Maybe it is the golden crust that is feeling very autumn-y! I don't know...

Then this very phrase, “fall equinox,” has been on my mind for the last couple of days, and as it happens, it occurs on the 23rd of September. Many of you may be familiar with this term, which means roughly equal days and nights. "Equinox" comes from a combination of two words; aequus, meaning equal, and nox, meaning night. So it basically translates to "equal nights," and its counterpart implies equal days . Well it came to my mind vocabulary while playing Strands: Uncover words. Some of you might be familiar with these fun games.

Strands games NY Times: 22nd September

An equinox is basically that point in time when the Sun, at least as we see it from Earth (don’t jump on me, astronomers), is halfway through its apparent journey from North to South in the sky, or the other way around.

On the equinox, the Sun is directly overhead at noon on the Equator. Of course, depending on where you are in the world, the position of the Sun in the sky will be a little different.

We have two equinoxes in a year. The Autumnal, or September, equinox usually falls somewhere between the 21st and 23rd of September, while the Vernal, or spring, equinox usually happens between the 19th and 21st of March.

That's my understanding of this term or at least that’s how I’m going to explain it without getting into trouble with the cosmologists.

I also learnt that Autumnal equinox is important in many cultures. It marks the season of some festivals.

“Now is come September the Hunter's Moon begun...”

Do also research solstices while you are at it :))

Anyhow that’s how this universe, or at least the happenings on Earth, work.

What does it signify?

I don’t want this post to be very heavy or philosophical, but there is something beautiful, something that we can reflect upon. It tells us that not every day and every night will be the same. Some days will be shorter, some nights will be longer.

It’s that time of the year that makes me feel a little heavier on the heart. I don’t want to say sad. It’s just a little heavier.

You can see the weather shifting big time. The nights have become a little colder on our side of the world, and it seems like everything has slowed down. I don’t know how to put it into words, but everything is just reflecting on what will be happening for the next couple of months.

And if you look around the world, nothing is slowing down. Everything is just in chaos.

But the weather, the shifting of seasons, it has nothing to do with any of that. It just keeps moving.

Maybe that is what I find interesting about it. Everything around us can be chaotic, uncertain, loud, and demanding, but the seasons still change. The days get shorter, the nights get longer, and the chaos even louder.

So, yeah, I just had an idea to make a bundt cake with the very last batch of mango purée that I had in my freezer. I just took it out, eyeballed everything, and made it. It turned out pretty decent.

I have already made a post telling you, on my very own blog, that I was absent for a very long time. I’m just finding my way back towards my muse. And for now, I’m going with the flow.

I don’t know. I have so many things in my mind. In fact, I found a niche for my writing. You will see something very soon in the Dream Steem.

But for now, I think I needed an icebreaker. Something to just get back into writing, to connect with you people again.

It’s nothing big.

It’s just how life is going at the moment.

Stay tuned for more

We don't hear much about these cosmological events nowadays but in olden times solstices and equinoxes were significant markers of different kinds of plannings throughout the year.

If you are into ancient architecture, you must know, most of them are somehow linked to some kind of celestial activity... pyaramids are aligned to true north. Stonehenge is aligned with solstices. Feels crazy to imagine how aware of the world they were. I go out and can't remember if I saw the moon last night. Getting dumber sitting behind the screen all day long.

Everything falls in the fall...the leaves, the temperatures, the mood...

I was so tempted to come and have a bite of this cake.

Congrats on your first bundt cake—those sweet, buttery layers will taste even more magical on an equinox day! What flavors are you thinking of pairing with the fall vibes? 🍂🎂✨

The line “Now is come September the Hunter’s Moon begun…” really struck me as a quiet invitation to pause.
