Current Condition of Zanzibar Clove Seedlings
Tonight, I apologize for the late post about the current situation, which I promised in my previous post. Yes, I was exhausted from starting the previous nursery from scratch, and now I can smile because the nursery I did is starting to show results. In the Current Condition of Zanzibar Clove Seedlings that I am growing in my garden.
In tonight's explanation, you can see that there are several things I want to share with Steem users who want to know the progress of my clove nursery, such as:
Clove Nursery Conditions
Below, Steem users can see the current condition of all the clove seedlings I sowed in the garden. I deliberately arranged these seedlings in several separate locations to understand how to more easily, measurably, and reliably grow this type of clove seedlings. I used three separate arrangements, which I will explain:
First Arrangement
In the first arrangement, I deliberately arranged them under a tree and covered them with dried areca nut leaves. During this process, the clove seedlings did thrive, but their growth was very slow and they refused to expand, and many of the new shoots withered.Second arrangement, I arranged them in an open area, only using a shade netting (a type of shade net) as a roof, which I purchased for around IDR 700,000 from a loan. Under these conditions, the seedlings thrived and their growth increased, many new shoots were visible, and on average, they only experienced wilting during the day, and in the morning they were very fresh with no wilted leaves visible.
The use of shade netting as a roof prevents direct sunlight and rainwater from hitting the clove seedlings.
- Third arrangement
I arranged the clove seedlings in an open area, without a roof, exposed to direct sunlight, and if it rained, it would also hit the clove seedlings.
Of the three trials I conducted, one worked best. Based on experience, I used the fourth arrangement method, modifying the arrangement to ensure success in this nursery. Let's see below:
Clove Seedlings in Plastic Planting Media
Based on my experience in cultivating seedlings, the fourth method I used was to cover the clove seedlings if the sun was shining brightly. If it wasn't hot or the weather was cloudy, I left part of the alternative roof uncovered. This way, I achieved the results shown in the image below during the growth stages.
The new shoots were beginning to grow well without wilting or dying, and their position was still pointing downward, as indicated by the number of leaves: some had two, some had four. With this number of leaves, I concluded that these seedlings were not yet ready to be planted. If we forced them to grow, their growth would be very slow below the soil.
Let's see below:
Clove Seedlings Have Started to Grow New Shoots
The image below is a clear demonstration that, when I implemented the fourth nursery method, which I've found to be very useful in my garden, this method can produce rapid and effective shoot growth, helping to manage clove seedlings so they can grow new shoots in the future.
Below is an example.
Clove Seedlings Are Ready to Plant
In the first image below, look at the leaves of the clove seedlings. They are pointing upwards, indicating that the roots of the clove seedlings are beginning to receive water from the soil, meaning the roots have bonded with the soil we filled in the plastic polybag planting medium.
You can also see the color of the leaves, which is very different from the other leaves. Therefore, I can now carry out this clove nursery process on a large scale, approaching 10,000 clove seedlings. Currently, only about 600 clove seedlings are available. This includes clove seedlings such as:
fertile condition
root germination condition
leaf germination condition
leaf germination condition
leaf germination condition.
wilted leaf tips
All of the above is done during the nursery period, while conducting proper planting research, fertilizer trials, and pest control trials with selected drugs.
After all of this, I got the results, as shown in the image below: the clove seedlings are starting to grow healthily and well. This is because some of the problematic seedlings had underlying diseases before I brought them to the garden. Therefore, I separated them from the nursery to prevent them from spreading to the healthy seedlings.
As you can see, the type of leaf still has four leaves and is waiting for the new shoot to grow two more. Therefore, I conclude from this nursery that if the clove leaves start to appear eight, then it is certain and without a doubt, that this nursery is 100% successful.
That's all I can say, and I wish you a happy holiday with your family.
I'll end here. Best regards
