Maths and Art, a virtuous relationship - Celtic Patterns

Hi friends!

The geometric elements of Celtic art, such as spirals, circles, and triangles, reflect the Celts' fascination with mathematical precision and harmony in nature. They looked at the geometric patterns inherent in the natural world, such as the spirals found in seashells or the hexagonal symmetry of honeycombs. They incorporated these patterns into their artwork as a way to celebrate and honour the beauty and order of the world. natural. Although the intricate knots that we find in Celtic art are not merely decorative but also symbolic, for now, we are only going to focus our attention on their geometric development.
I leave you here some samples of Celtic art before beginning the practical study of knots and patterns to understand the geometric basis behind their intricate designs.

Hi Jorge, the example of Celtic art and math is indeed come together. My hubby said that the pattern is also influenced by Ivy plant when you can see how Ivy is climbing along the trunks of trees and always twisting in itself.

I discovered the pattern when I was knitting it is also called Aran and there are indeed so many different version. Love those examples that you presented here, the more fine pattern the more complex it looks like :)

Hi Stef, indeed, the geometric elements in Celtic art, such as spirals, circles, and triangles, reflect the Celts' fascination with mathematical precision and harmony in nature. In essence, the relationship between knots, geometry, and love for nature is multifaceted and interconnected.
