Steemit Challenge s28wk1 : Zany and the tiny colored dragon
Zany called the tiny dragon Glimmer. Its scales caught the faint light. Glimmer fluttered around her in shades of blue, green, and bright yellow. A warmth started in Zany’s fingers and moved up her arm.
It filled her chest, chasing away the cold air. “You’re incredible,” she whispered. Her voice sounded steady. Glimmer playfully nipped her earlobe. A soft purr came from the little dragon’s chest. She could barely hear it.

“I haven’t felt this light in years,” Zany said. She walked with a new spring in her step. Glimmer flew ahead and circled back. Its flight looked like a happy dance. It was more than just a pet.
It felt like a spark of real hope. "Where did you come from? Why are you here now?" she wondered aloud. The dragon could not speak. Its bright presence gave Zany all the answer she needed.
They turned onto a quiet, side street. Rain still fell gently. A harsh sound instantly broke the peace. Tires screeched, then a loud, awful thud followed. Zany's heart jumped. Ahead of them, a crushed bicycle lay in the street. A still figure was lying too close to a parked car.
“Oh no!” Zany shouted. The happy feeling vanished. Dread hit her like a stone. She sprinted toward the scene, her stomach tightening hard. It was Leo. Her friend used this shortcut often. “Leo!” Zany screamed.
She skidded to a stop next to her friend. Leo was twisted badly. A cut bled on her forehead, and she groaned softly. Her leg bent at a strange angle. The dark, wet road hid Leo from oncoming cars.
“Leo, can you hear me?” Zany’s voice shook now. Her mind raced fast. Her phone was totally dead. There were no streetlights nearby. “Glimmer, what should we do?” she pleaded. “We need light. We need help right now.” She looked at the tiny dragon hovering nearby.
Glimmer sensed Zany’s fear and the urgent need. It pulsed with a huge, sudden brightness. Its colors got much deeper. The dragon was not just sparkling anymore. It sent out a pure golden light. This beam cut through the rain and mist. It lit up Leo and the crash site like a signal tower.
Glimmer quickly flew higher into the air. It circled above the road. The pulsing light became a desperate signal in the growing darkness.
“Hold on, Leo!” Zany yelled again. She gently pulled off Leo’s backpack. She hoped to relieve some pressure. Zany waved her free arm wildly toward distant headlights. She prayed the dragon’s light would catch the driver's eye.

Glimmer’s light covered Leo. Zany thought she saw relief flash across her friend's face. The dragon’s warmth felt like a soft hug. It was a silent promise everything would be okay.
The car slowed down fast. It screeched to a stop right near them. A man jumped out quickly. He already had his phone to his ear. “Help is coming now,” he shouted.
Zany looked up at Glimmer still bright above. Then she looked back at Leo. Fear remained, but strong hope was there too. That hope came from the tiny, shining creature. Their sudden bond was now strong. It shone bright through the darkest parts of the night.
