RE: Moved by Waters: My Personal Journey to Norman Maclean’s Montana

in #writing8 years ago

My kids didn’t get a good picture of it because the camera lens was smeared with sunscreen. But a memory is all you really need.

This resonated a lot with me. Not that there is anything wrong with taking pictures, but the memory itself is what matters.

I'm guilty of this just as much as the next concert goer, but when I go to concerts I spend far too much time taking videos on my phone seeing the concert through my tiny screen instead of putting my damn phone away and making memories live with my mind and not needing to store grainy pixelated movies of substandard quality when the real thing is right there.

If you're like me you probably throw those videos on your computer and never come back to them again.

I have a cousin in Montana who dislikes the crowded congested city of Buffalo and finds peace out there. He is looking to sustain himself through farming and the building regulations do not require permits (if I remember correctly). I'm not a huge nature person (I love the city, like your wife), but I do wish to visit Montana someday.

I have only seen the cover of "A River Runs Through It," but I think Redford and Pitt are great actors and you have convinced me to rent it from the local library and spend the time to watch it myself.

Sometimes we do just need to disconnect with technology and connect with nature. Always being reachable is nice, but so is not having dings, pings, vibrations and notifications shaping our every move.

Sometimes a hammock, beautiful view and a brew or two can do wonders for your mind.

Appreciated this @donkeypong

(Post the link if you have already covered this please, but I would love to know how/why you picked your username) or make a whole post like @rok-sivante did. I'm sure I'm not alone with this pondering and would also enjoy knowing about @cryptoctopus name too.
