Blood
Name: 1% of peripheral blood blasts. Author: Gregory Méndez. Is a medical term that illustrates the presence of blood blasts (a kind a cancer).
I wrote this poem for my ill mother , she was diagnosted with myelodysplastic syndrome - MDS in 2013 and died in 2014. It talks about my fears when I was taking conscience about her decease when I saw the results of her first exams
Blood
I see the time running through a tunnel made of days
The stars pass one by one, darkening, shining
And my skin dries and my mind mutates
My words change and my body weakens.
I see the milestones of the past and you are always there
With your songs, with your sweet poems
With the art untied from your tired hands
With your smile and your clumsiness
With your head turned by sparkling nebulae
With your cyclopean strength of beast
Guiding the boat of the children given
For a world that denied you certainties.
Of your love, of your illusion of sunsets
Taken by the hand of someone, who kissed
Your wavy, ashen mane.
However, you raised your head
Looking for a radiant dawn course
Profiled by rocky roads, sleepy
Silencing the cry of those who tremble
Shading us with your broken umbrella
Worn out by many storms.
I wanted to know the labyrinths of your mind
See the origin of the poignant music
From the wind that moved your candles, the color of your stars
The fervent sun that separates your penumbras
And the treacherous moon that constellates you.
But beyond I found your woman enigmas
Your old, gloomy silence
And the rushing river of your weeping
A deserted beach and an open chest
For which they escaped, long ago your songs.
Today your plasma is mixed in the palette of the Creator
The hands of the clock spinning
Inexorable, in the canvas of your life
Cell rivers regenerate and die
Bringing the effluvia of your genesis
I read the medullar pieces and I do not know your days
I just have to see your heroic wake
To sail the misty sky of my progeny
Who has always known you
Because your name is written in my blood.
