How To Stay Motivated To Write (STEEMIT EXCLUSIVE)

in #writing8 years ago (edited)

If the clear benefits already on Steemit aren't driving you enough to write, Maybe it's time to practice some self-control and make new rules for yourself. Creating content on Steemit, Needs to be high quality and Consistent. For those of us with less writing experience, Writing an article can't be a daunting task, Our perfectionist mindset sometimes prevents us from coughing up all the words necessary to get it done.

Whether you are working on a fantasy novel or a feature article of 5000 words; staying motivated while writing is hard. As a writer, you will find that words flow smoothly on certain days and others, coming up with ideas and putting them into words are difficult. There are days when you would rather do anything else other than writing but even so, staying motivated while writing is instrumental when it comes to writing a great story, article, paper, etc. Without motivation, the quality of your work is compromised. The following will come in handy whenever you find yourself struggling to write.

Make somebody give you a real deadline

Arranging your work in a manner that something has to be done within a given timeframe helps avoid negative consequences. Treat the current assignment as a ‘life or death’ situation that will lead to the termination of a contract or loss of a job if it’s not completed in time.

Tell your inner critic to take a break

Everyone at one time or another have doubts regarding their writing skills. However if you are facing a tight deadline, chances are there isn’t time to worry about how good or bad your talent is. Write down your ideas and worry about their quality later. It is better to worry about editing a bad manuscript rather than writing from scratch.
Brainstorming is a great tactic, Just write down everything that pops into your head then go off that to create your rough draft.

Find a new place to work

Sometimes a change in surroundings can go a long way in motivating you to write. This works best if your workplace is part of the reason you don’t feel like writing. Go to your favorite coffee shop or try working from the balcony of your home. Whatever works, go with it.
Concentrate more on what’s already done and less on what’s yet to be done
If you start thinking of how much more work you have, you will get stuck from sheer fright. Focusing on what you have already written gives you a sense of compliment and improves your confidence. This in turn motivates you to keep going.

Make reasonable goals and stick to them

As a writer, it is okay to set a daily page or word count goal. This should always be reasonable and be taken as the minimum amount of work to complete every day. You don’t always have to succeed due to certain factors but on the days that you get the work done, you’ll realize it feels great and gives you a confidence boost.

Write something every day

Don’t ever take a day off, especially if you are facing a deadline. Writing every day helps ensure that your ideas flow smoothly and that your character or story stays fresh in your mind.

Like James Altucher says "Write ten Ideas a day." Also, write every day in general. Brainstorm your projects, Then get started.

Some resources to help you write:

  • You can brush up on writing skills by picking up some books at the library, Or purchase Kindle books.
  • Use spell checker to check your spelling, (Firefox has a setting for that)
  • Purchase and use Grammarly to help you with your Grammar and other components of your writing.

Great post. Try not to worry too much about how much you get, rather just focus on sharing your beautiful stories. Just see this platform as a place to come and share your stories and knowledge. Nothing more and if you get rewarded, great, if not then still great. Don't be discouraged at all. Be grateful for whatever you get in life whether good or bad. The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 that in all things, give thanks :) Peace and love to you all :)

Most importantly, have fun. Steemit is a Social Media Game. Steem Dollars are no different from poker chips in a casino or points in a game. If you treat it as a game and not as a job it can be fun.

I love this comment, It definitely should be like a game! But I also feel this is a great opportunity for us to improve our writing skills too

Me too! Having fun with something you love will lead to new opportunities and I'm glad I found Steemit.

Great tips. I've heard said that anyone can write when they're inspired, but writers are valued because they can write when they're not inspired.

i made a picture today)

Wonderful picture :)

Great post! I'm looking for tips on authors who deserve more attention - and to be featured in Steemit Golden Nuggets ! Comment on the post with suggestions!

Thank you!!

These are very good, very sound tips. For me, the most important one is consistency. Write EVERY DAY - even if it's only a grocery list. Being held accountable by like-minded writing friends is also a favorite. Have a great day! Keep writing :)

Agreed! Writing Everyday is extremely important.

An upvote from steemians are my motivation to keeping me going forward mate . :)

Thank you! So I'm wondering, Are my photos working on your computer? I'm not seeing them on mine :/ I'm not sure if I need to mess with them.

The moment i comment this 8 hours ago i able to see them but now they just like some bad script thingy . sams to my post too .
Btw do visit me if ypu have some time ;)

Dang it ;/ Maybe Steem is glitching, Thanks for letting me know, I'll come check out your stuff!

I got all my picture issue fix , when you upload it just choose direct link instead of html link :D

Great article, another great tip would be to place yourself in an atmosphere that keeps you motivated. I like to keep some bonsai trees and roman architecture around to help ease my mind and make it seem like its peaceful an not hectic. This helps me concentrate which provides no interruption and in turn gives me a lot of motivation.

Thank you! I love this tip:)

I also find it helpful to walk away from my work and come back in a few more minutes to give myself a little bit of a mental break. I've also been playing around with the idea of "walking away" from my work to upvote some quality steemit posts.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read my blog

@jeeves Hey @jeeves You've been mute for a bit, but if your owner is around, there is some talk about integrating a featureset like yours directly https://github.com/steemit/steemit.com/issues/66
Thought your owner might want to chime in.

Replied you on the git issue.

I think that this is pretty good advice. I tend to think that things you post have to be written for the long run. If it strikes that is great. But to build a following and long term earnings you have to consider a bigger picture. https://steemit.com/steemit/@iamwne/persistence-approach-to-steemit-a-practical-guide
