Hello Steemians,

Everybody has felt this feeling at least once in his life. But nobody ever confesses it because it is said to be painful for your soul and dangerous for other people. On the other hand sometimes, it can prove useful because it is a warning for us is that we have lost a confrontation, giving us the opportunity to improve and showing us the road to do so.

Envy is an unmentionable poisonous feeling for the soul. It is the pain we feel when we lose a social confrontation and it is usually exposed when someone has something we would like to have such as social status, political power, beauty or success. It can be an emotion that is experienced as a "tightness" over the idea that's someone as passed us in terms of a field that is important to us. It is a state of inadequacy and malice towards the envied person.

In fact the feeling of envy is very often characterized by the desire to damage or deprive the other person of the thing that makes him enviable. This is usually achieved by delegatory comments behind their back or simply by a malicious gaze. It is not a coincidence that the Latin word for envy has the same root as "videre", which means to see.

The characteristic essence of envy is that it makes it difficult to admit even to ourselves that we are actually feeling this way. It is a sentiment that is directed towards the persons who are considered comparable. For example for us women comparison with our beautiful acquaintance is more of burning matter than the comparison with a supermodel. By the same token, it is easier to envy the coworker that is promoted than to envy the manager or the director.

The last but not the least is the sense of Injustice that accompanies the feeling of envy. The disadvantage for the other people is an advantage for the one who is feeling envy in a scale social competition. That unpleasant feelings of inferiority may be transformed into satisfaction or even superiority. Consequently that dangerous sense of injustice is canceled. As a result, the person feeling envy can live in the illusion of being innocent and sometimes feeling even to be the victim.

In the long run the people who are envious launche three messages: first of all they make it clear the fact that they feel inferior, secondly they are hostile two other people's success and the final message is that they could even hurt other people. That's why this poisonous feeling is condemned by societies. Not only is it considered socially destructive, but it also makes people dangerous.
