Happy Valentine's day!

in #writing7 years ago

Greetings, dear readers!

In our country, the holiday" Valentine's day "or" Valentine's day " came not so long ago, after the Soviet Union broke up into several States. Perhaps that is why it is not celebrated as widely as in the world.

On this day we can confess our feelings to our loved ones by sending them a special card, the so-called "Valentine".

And not all of us know where and in connection with what appeared this holiday.

I would like to note that it was widely celebrated in Ancient Rome. However, it was called a little differently-"Lupercalia" (which means "Erotic festival") in honor of the God of love, and was celebrated on February 15.

But if it had survived in the same form as it existed before, probably, he would not be so happy now.

But let's take it in order.

The holiday of "Lupercalia" was born in 276 BC and was more considered a punishment from above for the sins committed. The fact is that In those years, ancient Rome was on the verge of complete self-destruction. For some unknown reason, children were no longer born in the city. Either the women had miscarriages or the newborns were dead.

And people invented a ritual of sacrificing animals. Couples who had no children came to the sacred place where once mythical wild beast fed twin brothers, the founders of Rome. Men killed sacrificial animals, cutting off their heads, and from skins cut belts.

Then the ritual action moved to the city. Men undressed naked and walked around the city. Women also did not hesitate to take to the streets in the Nude. When a man met a woman on the street, he beat her with a belt, and she did not resist because she believed that it would help her to get pregnant, bear and give birth to a child.

On this day young girls in search of the betrothed-mummers wrote the names on pieces of parchment, put them in a basket and mixed, and young men as in a lottery, took from it a piece of paper with a name of the girl who had to make to it couple.

These are the manners and customs existed in the early centuries until 496, the year of our era.

This year the Pope issued a decree, which abolished the pagan holiday, and instead of it on February 14 there was a new one - "Valentine's Day", canonized for helping all those in love.

Over time, the holiday spread first in Europe and then around the world. But in our country it has not yet received the same broad scale as in other countries.

In any case, only a small part of my friends celebrate it by sending greeting cards to their friends and acquaintances. But the idea of a "Valentine" is necessary to give to the beloved, and not all in a row? Am I wrong?))

But, even if I am wrong in something, I still congratulate you on this holiday, I wish you love, peace and prosperity!
