Progress has taught me to get things done
Hi all,
This is my second update on how I've been doing, what I've been facing and experiencing with living the word progress, which I defined and redefined in my post The trick to achieve something is to PROGRESS.
To recap my redefinition of ‘progress’ that I am walking this week:
Progress is making a step forward, getting a bit more done than the previous time - every time I do something, like daily, or hourly, or monthly, etc.. Be it in a project, a chore, a task, an undertaking or an application. It’s the process of building up or creating something BIT BY BIT. It is comparable to taking a single additional step towards getting something done, or creating something - be it in a project, a chore, task, undertaking or action. And it is done in every moment or opportunity i have during a day to get a bit more done, to add-to something in building up towards that moment of completed creation of whatever I am in the process of creating in me or my life.
As I have reported in my first update I have continued living the word progress that way. The most challenging point I have faced in living progress, and also a very interesting point or realization tied to this word, is that I have no room for excuses and justifications to not work on something. Living the word progress takes and took away all my excuses and justifications I would normally have to not work on a project, task or responsibility. Why? Have a look: Realizing that all I need with a task, project, chore, responsibility or generally an action is but to do a little bit more on it. Work a little bit more on it. Get a little bit more done in that area. Building the creation of the project, task, chore, responsibility or action up a bit more. If I do not do more by spending hours on it, then at least I can work just that little bit more or extra on it to keep the creation process of it going until one day it is complete.
Not a single valid excuse
Do I really have ONE single valid reason why I cannot get just that little bit of work done on something? Why can I not get just that little bit more work done on writing something? Why can I not get just a little bit more work done on my mind construct by adding one or a couple of lines to my timeline and so on? Why can I not get just a little bit more work done on speaking one or two additional lines of self-forgiveness? Why can I not get just that little bit more work done with my art and add a couple more strokes, colors or overall additions to the drawing or painting? Why can I not get just that little bit more work done with my app development and add a couple more lines of code, start coding that feature, trace some bugs or refactor some code I already have? Why can I not get just that little bit more work done with studying and learning a new skill or one I have already started and strengthen the understanding and skill within me? Why can I not get just that little bit more work done with reorganizing my house, cleaning, chores, responsibilities and other projects and hobbies I have or would like to begin? Well. Let me tell you. There is No reason why I cannot. Because I can. It is, in fact, “just” that little bit more work I have to put in and I can definitely do that if I self-honestly can’t do more in a day.
Not having lots of time doesn't mean not getting anything done
So living the word progress has surprisingly also taught me that if I can’t spend hours each day on working on something, be it a self-development application, such as self-forgiveness, mind-constructs, redefining words, or be it more of another type of project, such as drawing, painting, app development, learning a skill, etc. - that that is not an excuse to not get done at least just a little bit more on it, adding to it, keeping the creation of it going so to speak until one day the little bits of work done here and there have accumulated to it’s completion, or creation if you will.
Getting things done by progression
Further, living the word progress has assisted and supported me to, in this way of getting things done by just doing that little bit of more work on something, actually get my projects and creations going, moving and developing which otherwise would have come to a stand still, because I wouldn’t have worked on them for the reason that if I can’t get a lot done with it then there’s no point to work on it at all until I have much more time. Which is totally invalid. For, as mentioned a couple of times before in this post: Doing just a bit more and getting a bit more done each time I have time and do it will accumulate over time until that something I am working on is completed and the creation is done and here.
Otherwise not a lot of things will get done, will they? Why? Well, who in this world, besides those with lots of money and time have the time to dedicate hours each day on individual projects and get them done in kinda ‘one go’? Well, not a lot of people, certainly. So, creation happens bit by bit when we do that additional bit of more work done on something, and over time it accumulates until it’s done.
That’s been my progress and experience of living the word progress since last Monday. It’s been a great teacher and allowed me to expand in getting things done in my life. :)
So, that’s how I’ve been exploring, practicing, living and with that discovering much more about me in relation to the word progress these past seven days since starting it. It has taught me a lot and helped me a ton with getting things done, or at least, if not done, moving them forward, adding more and more bits and steps to it. Progressing it until at one point it is complete.
