SMILE
One of the cheapest and easiest ways to boost your mood, your health, your longevity, and even your success is to smile. Each time we smile we throw up a little feel-good party up in our brains, smiling naturally activates our neural system that benefits our health and happiness.
Prof. Dr sayed atalla said Smiling is definitely more than just a contraction of muscles in your face.
What happens to our brains when we smile?
For instance let’s say you feel cognizant when you see a friend you haven’t met in a long while. This actually connotes that the neutral signals travel from the cortex of your brain down to the brainstem (particularly the oldest part of our brains). From there, the cranial muscle transports the signal further towards the smiling muscles in our face.
Whenever we smile, basically 2 potential muscles automatically activate. The first one is
- Zygomaticus: This is the controller of the corners in our mouth, whenever this particular muscle is activated. Peradventure it’s not actually a genuine smile; scientists call this one a social smile
- Obicularis occuli: This is found in our eye socket, it signifies a true smile or also called the Duchenne smile. It was named after the famous scientist who separated the mouth corners.
Literally our brain can distinguish very easily what’s fake and what’s real.

Some positive effects smiling contributes to our health, success and feeling of happiness
Smiling can modify our brain, and our brain keeps track of our smiles. More like a smile scorecard, it knows how frequently you’ve smiled and which overall emotional state you are experiencing.
We reduce stress when we smile. Smiling helps to generate positive emotions around you, that’s why we most times feel happy around children, cause they smile more.
Why it is important to smile
Smiling acquires less energy and calories: it has been scientifically proven that it takes 43 muscles to frown and just 17 muscles to smile. When we smile we use less energy than frowning. Most people who frown a lot look way older than their age, because they combine the 60 muscles present in the face and turn it into a frown. By so doing they generate wrinkles and furrow in their faces.
So therefore cultivate the habit of smiling everyday and anytime, and conserve more energy for yourself.
