Subtraction is harder than Addition?
Learning mathematics is an important thing in life. Mathematics allows us to be able to calculate the risks and benefits of each action or decision. In the crypto world, both basic and advanced analysis still have to use mathematical principles.
In fact, learning mathematics cannot be separated from calculations, whether multiplication, division, addition or subtraction.
Now let's see how a child will have a learning tendency, whether he prefers to calculate addition or subtraction.
Based on my experience teaching children since 2000, I see that children will prefer addition over subtraction. Do you also find the same thing with my experience? Or do you also experience what I say?
We can see the difficulty of children learning to reduce this from two aspects, namely aspects of human character and technical aspects. I will explain these two things easily so that we all can understand what I mean.
Human Character
The first aspect that we can see is the human nature that prefers to get extra. We will be happier when our wealth increases. We will be happier to count the amount of money that continues to grow.
On the other hand, when our wealth decreases, we become sad. We are disappointed when we count our reduced assets. We are always not happy when we find out that our money is decreasing.
This mentality may affect our understanding of counting. We will have difficulty calculating subtraction and more comfortable calculating addition.
We have to fight this mentality and minimize it. We can't be stingy. We have to change our mindset about giving will reduce our wealth. We must straighten out the understanding that when we give we are investing in shares and we will reap profits in the future. If we do this then we will become open minded people and get ease in life.
Technique
In calculating subtraction we know two ways, namely counting backwards and counting forwards.
Counting down
This method is done by counting backwards from a large number to a small number or from the number that is reduced to the minus number.
In learning subtraction, there are still many parents or teachers who count backwards. Example 11 - 4
Many use the technique of counting backwards from 10, 9, to the number 4.
This method can be justified but becomes prone to errors because when counting backwards there can be a jump in the count. This lack of accuracy makes our children miscalculate or take longer to get the results.
Likewise when we want to calculate 48 - 35
We have to count down 47, 46, 45, 44 to 35. This becomes a chance for the wrong countdown.
Effective way.
In this case, we can quickly count forward.
How to make a fist. Then we count after 4 while opening the finger and stop at number 11. This open finger is the result of the count.
In the second question, we just need to clench our fists and count forward while opening our fingers after 35. Open the first finger while counting 36, the second finger 37 and so on until the finger that opens on the count of 48 is 7. The result of the reduction of 48 and 35 is 7.
By counting forward the children do not experience significant obstacles because they are like ordinary counting.
That way we will be able to teach subtraction more easily.
Thus my writing this time may be useful for all of us.
