This is a very common mistake by inexperienced travelers. Having lived abroad for 10 years, you get to learn all the ins and outs of international travel and yes the 6 month rule is something people need to be aware of.
But my question to everyone out there is this. Why do humans accept being the only species on the planet that needs to check in with some authoritarian figure to cross an imaginary line? Do people even think about this issue, or are they just brought up believing that this is normal and it should always be this way. If you don't have freedom of movement, you don't have freedom, you just have a privilege!
Ahhh @tgheretic you are touching on my very questions! I actually started with that and ended up with my mom's story coming out. I will absolutely raise these issues in the second part and hopefully be able to open up a dialogue about it, get people thinking because you're right, it's ludicrous!
