It just ties into the rest of my books... A portal opened up to let him through when he was thrown from his vehicle - or before, not completely clear on that one. Sometimes, the Guardians will let them make brief trips back for things like this - reuniting a family. But the time connection between the two worlds isn't a constant thing...
