SEC-S30W4: Building a Fable | The End Of A Greedy Tortoise.

Once upon a time there lived two neighbours, the Dog and the Tortoise. They seem to be good friends but have their differences, one would wonder how they have been coping all the while but somehow they have managed to coexist.

Unfortunately for the animals Kingdom, famine came upon the whole land that it became very difficult to survive, some animals had to relocate while some just found a way of managing the situation. Mr.Dog and Tortoise was no exception.

One day the Dog found a very cunny way to survive the famine. Almost everyday he manages to bring in enough food sufficient for his family's daily needs and it wasn't long before Mr.Tortoise noticed the change as Mr.Dog and family kept looking fresh by the day.

He couldn't hold back and on one fateful day he went to meet Mr.Dog and asked him why he now seems undisturbed by the famine and why his family looks fresh and robust. He knew there was something Mr.Dog was doing but wasn't telling him.

After much persuasion Mr.Dog decided to share his secret and asked them to meet very early by 4am the following day. Mr. Tortoise could not even wait till 4am before he went straight to Mr.Dogs house to meet up. When it was exactly 4am Mr.Dog told him to follow him and they went on and on till they got to a farm somewhere beyond their territory.

It was now obvious to Mr.Tortoise that Mr.Dog was actually stealing yams from the farm. He would go very early and leave before the day breaks enough for him to be seen. As usual, the dog uprooted just three tubers that it could carry. Tortoise did the same and they zoomed off. It was a successful plan.

The following day Mr. Tortoise had already devised a plan to outsmart the Dog, he had a plan to carry more yams home this time, this time he plan taking more than is needed for the day and even sell from it to his dubious folks around. He didn't mention this to Mr.Dog until they got there.

Mr. Dog uprooted three tubers as usual and tied up to set out as usual. Then he went to check on the Mr.Tortoise only to find out that he had uprooted 10 tubers. Mr.Dog felt disappointed and worried at the same time, wondering how he was going to carry all of that before the day breaks.

Speedily he left Mr. Tortoise and sped home.It wasn't long before Mr.Totoise knew he was in trouble, he couldn't move with the yams yet couldn't drop it. He struggle and struggle till it was day breaks when the owner of the farm who has already been worried about the missing yam from the farm caught up with him.

At this point, Mr. Tortoise cried out saying he wasn't the only one, he said Mr.Dog is also an accomplice. By this time news has gotten to the village that Mr. Tortoise had been caught. Quickly Mr.Dog told his wife to wrap him up in a cloth and put two eggs in his mouth so he can pretend to be sick.

In no time, folks have gathered in front of Mr.Dogs house to find out the truth as they interrogated him, he feigned sickness, shivering and vomiting as he broke the eggs in his mouth. They all felt convinced that Mr.Dogs doesnt know anything about it and hasn't even left his home for days.

Everyone then took Mr. Tortoise to a location where he will be punished, they had boiled a large quantity of water before his arrival, he was thrown in that water and monitored till he died of his greed.

Moral Lesson.

Never Allow greed to make you bite more than you can chew. If the plan had been followed, the tortoise would never have been caught, but he allowed greed and that led to his death.
