SEC-S30W5: Spooky Bedtime Stories | The Visitor at Midnight
This is a fictional story, but it is written in a way that feels real.
A girl named Amara, lived all alone in a small apartment. Over time, Amara is used to silence and she enjoys it all the time, which makes her feel good. Every night, she locks up her doors and windows and go to bed early, because early to bed, early to rise.
One night, around 12:30am, she suddenly wakes up but didn't know what woke her up or why she woke up. She kept starring, although everything feels quiet but something feels wrong. She sits up and listens carefully.
Then she hears a soft knock on her door.
“knock...knock...knock”
Who could that be? She said in a low voice.
She gets out of her bed and walked gently to her door. Her hands shaky as she moves closer and looks through the peephole.
But there's no one there.
Well maybe I just imagined, she frowns.
As she turns back to her room
“knock...knock...knock”
This time the knock is louder.
She quickly looks again, still no one.
Immediately, fear begin to get hold of her.
“I'm not opening that door”, she said to herself.
She hurriedly returned to her bed and pulled the blanket over herself. After a few minute, she begin to calm down.
Then she heard something else, suddenly!
A sound from inside the house, foot steps, slowly coming from the living room.
Amara's eyes widen
“That's not possible,” she says. “I locked my door so how come someone is inside now?”
The footsteps continue to get closer, and they are heading towards her room.
Amara freezes completely and couldn't move.
Then the footstep stops right outside her room door.
Silence grew in that moment, then..
Craaaaaaak...
Her door opens by itself
Amara stares like a log of wood, too scared to even breathe. In the darkness, she sees a figure,,,
A woman standing quietly.
Her face is tiny, her eyes almost empty and her clothes look old.
Amara tries to scream, but she couldn't hear herself.
The woman didn't move closer, she just stands there staring at her.
Then in a gentle voice, the woman says,
“You didn't open the door”
Amara responded in a shaky voice, “who... who are you?”
The woman turns her head slightly.
“I knocked”, she said calmly. But you didn't open”
Amara begin to roll down tears, “I didn't see anyone when I checked...”
“You're not supposed to see me”. She replies”
Amara gets cold as she pulled her blanket closer and tighter. “What do you want?”
The woman takes a step forward.
“I only needed to come in.”
Amara shakes her head quickly. “No... no, please...!”
The woman stops. For a moment, and everywhere was silent.
Then she smiles a wicked smile. “But I'm already inside.”
The light goes off totally as darkness fills the room immediately.
Amara screams loudly.
The next morning, when her neighbours came to check on her, her door was still locked from inside. Nothing broken or stolen, but Amara is gone.
The only strange thing they notice is...
Three knock marks on the door of her bedroom.
But what could this mean, and where has Amara gone to?
The question remained unanswered...
