XL Efforts for Internet Connection Not Depending on Singapore
Joining a consortium called Australia Singapore Cable, XL Axiata (XL) has confirmed that its network for internet services does not always depend on Singapore.
As is known, Indonesian internet access to the global network often through Singapore first. Now, through the development of Australia-Indonesia-Singapore Sea Cable System (SKKL), the route to the global internet can be reached through Australia.
"This will be an alternative to global Internet access because through Australia it reduces our dependence on Singapore, where it is the main route of Indonesia to global traffic," said XL Axiata President Director & CEO Dian Siswarini at Ritz Carlton Ballroom, Mega Kuningan Area, Jakarta, Monday (11/12/2017).
In addition, the development of SKKL can affect the cost of international access through the southern route of Indonesia and Australia to America which is currently still said to be limited.
"This development can also be beneficial to our common goal, increasing our productivity in supporting Indonesia's broadband economy," he said.
XL participation in the konsorium is also to support the needs of its customers have been switched to using internet services. So no wonder, about 70% of the company's budget is allocated to build network infrastructure.
At least a submarine cable operated by Alcatel Submarine Network (ASN) will unfold a 4.600 km long cable. The $ 170 million invested project is in its current state and ready to operate in the third quarter of 2018.
Meanwhile, XL continues to extend internet access to the community through 3G and 4G services. So far, there are 340 cities served by 4G of XL and 3G are spread over 400 cities / districts throughout Indonesia.
