Yahoo claims to have 1 billion active monthly users right now. That's different than total users, and that number could be much higher than it was in 2013. Either way, with two separate hacks in 2013 and 2014 impacting between 1 billion and 1.5 billion accounts, it's a good bet that yours was among them.

Even if it wasn't, it's not a bad idea to treat it as such. So where do you start?
Figure Out If You Have A Yahoo Account
Not all Yahoo accounts have the word Yahoo in them. Yahoo provides white-label email service to Internet service providers (including AT&T, Frontier, SBCGlobal, and Verizon in the U.S., Rogers in Canada, and BT and Sky in the U.K., among others). It's possible, then, that your primary email account is a Yahoo account and you don't even know it.
A quick Google search should be all it takes. If not, have a chat with your provider's tech support.
Go Change Your Password. Like... Yesterday.
Changing your email password on your Yahoo account ISP-provided email account immediately is a very good place to start. Change your password reset questions and answers. If you have the option, you should also enable two-step verification for added security.
There's a decent chance that news of 500 million accounts being breached followed less than two months later by news of 1 billion accounts being breached has shaken your confidence in Yahoo. You might feel like your email is no longer safe there. You're not alone.
While setting up a new email address can be a bit of a hassle, this is one of those times where you should just grit your teeth and do it.
Microsoft has an easy-to-follow tutorial on how to move your Yahoo mail to Outlook.com. It's not hard to move to Gmail, either. If you'd prefer something a bit more private, FastMail makes it easy to bring your Yahoo email to their secure servers. These tools should work whether you've got an actual Yahoo email address or an ISP-supplied one.
Shut It Down
You can also ensure that no one will ever breach your Yahoo account ever again by shutting it down for good. This page on Yahoo's support site will walk you through the process.
Make The Best Of It
In spite of these two massive black eyes, Yahoo really wants you to stick around. If you'd rather not pack up and leave, they'll gladly help you reset your password, take back control of your account, and bulletproof it with features like two-step verification, Yahoo Account Key, and per-application passwords.
