[Croatia, Šibenik #5] A city of holiday resort for European travelers, and the warmth of a small village

You may be richer than me,
but you will never be free like me

Hello.
I'm traveler @rbaggo

The city I'm going to introduce today is Šibenik, a city recommended by the family of other travelers I met in Zadar, and nearby small towns nearby.

While hitchhiking here, coincidentally, the driver recommended that I must look around here, Šibenik because she lives in the city and it's really nice.

Šibenik is a city with peaceful beaches, which is also not well known to Asian travelers. Europeans often come to this place, which is not crowded with tourists, to relax for a week or two before returning home.

When I visited, I couldn't enter to cathedral, because it was under construction. Overall, the feeling of the city is a quiet seaside city. According to the explanation I heard while hitchhiking, there are four small castle towers surrounding the city.

I could see the castle above the hill in the city, so I slowly walked up and reached the entrance of the castle. There's an entrance fee.

As I turned a little around the entrance, there was a nice place where I could look down at the whole city without paying. However, I had to be careful because the walls were hanging close to the cliff.

The sea-scented Šibenik seems just right for a resort city. It's not crowded because there aren't that many tourists, and it's great to have a quiet personal time.

It was really delicious to buy drinks and sandwiches at a nearby supermarket and eat them while looking down at the Šibenik before going up to the castle. It was a little hard to climb the hill with my backpack on, but when I came up, it was worth it.

After that, I learned a lot about Croatia while hitchhiking again. Croatia is said to be divided into 4 to 5 regions.

  • Nearby the capital city of Zagreb is Zagoria.
  • in the southeast of region is Dalmatia.
  • Rijeca and Piran, in the west of region is Eastra. You could have heard 'Eastra Peninsula'.
  • The northeast region is called Slavonia.

Split, a beautiful city in Croatia, is one of the most visited city by tourists. Hvar and Vis are popular on this island. Hvar is for people who like fluffy parties prefer it, andVis` is for people who want to have relax because there are fewer tourists.

I hitchhiked until dark in the evening and got stuck in a small town. It should have been moved from Šibenik on a coastal road along the beach, but it happened because I tried to take a short route with small villages.

Then I arrived at a small town called Boraja, and it was already too dark for the cars to move, and I had to find a place to sleep. Around that time, I met Ivan, who jogs from a little distance.

He's been working out every day saying he's a martial arts champion, and he finds me and invites me home. And then he asked me "Are you hungry?", giving some food to me.

The reason why I took this picture is, He put everything into plastic bag. And still asked "Do you need anything else?"

Evan also said he shouldn't eat sweets because he works out, so he gave me fruit juice. He was sorry that he couldn't host me to sleep because he had to work at night later.

That's a lot of stuff. Apple, grapes, orange and kiwi!
And fruit juice.

There are a lot of figs open in the front yard, so he told me to pick and eat as much as I want. It is easy to see in Mediterranean countries, but it is one of the most expensive fruits in Korea.

I slept nearby school building that is not used now. It was a stone floor, but I can sleep anywhere with happiness.

Oh, I didn't eat the grapes Ivan gave me. When I woke up in the morning, it was crowded with swarms of ants running after smelling sweet grapes. I think it was a good thing I ate kiwi and apple before I went to bed the night before, and kept oranges.

Croatia is actually one of the countries that is developed tourism and it's one of the countries where hitchhiking is really, really not possible. It went so well on the small village side of the inland area. I think the bigger the city, the less they give us rides, the more similar to other countries.
