Art Book - Concept Art for Video Game

in #art8 years ago

Hello Steemit community!

I wanted to show all of you a project I worked on a while back, its called Empire of the Gods. It was mainly a pitch for a sci-fi game for which we had to develop a rich and imaginative visual universe, from the ground up. Characters, environments, props, color sketches, the whole thing. The project was so visually entertaining that I even ended up making side stories for some of the characters.

The project required of me a lot of imagination and a lot of iterations. Sketches upon sketches of ideas. Some of them turned out well, others not so much. That is the thing about working in concept art: don't get attached to an idea. Never! You might love it. The director might not. Entire projects get scrapped due to countless reasons. We should be flexible enough to spend months working on things that will never see the light of day. The good side is that everything piles up in terms of experience. Every minute spent drawing or painting is never wasted! The project you are working on might not get the green light for production. But all the experience you compiled will be available for the next project, a professional or a personal one.

The story for the project was a hero's journey kind of myth. A little slave girl called Lyra, from a really marginal planet, is caught up in the middle of a galactic civil war between two kingdoms. After joining a small group of rebellious soldiers, she and her best friend, a assassin robot called Tarug, start to uncover a lot of dark secrets about the kings and queens of old, including a really dark secret about Lyra's own spiritual inheritance.

I hope you all like it! Don't forget to leave your comment!

Hey everyone, I was reading the post “Art Book - Concept Art for Video Game” and it got me thinking about the production side of things. I recently started looking into game art outsourcing studios, especially those that provide 3D modeling. Has anyone here actually worked with an outsource team that handles the full pipeline like drafts, revisions, and final models with textures? I’m curious how well that process works in real projects. Would love to hear some real feedback!

I was in a similar situation and decided to try working with a game art outsourcing studio that focuses on 3D modeling. It’s basically an outsource setup where they don’t just deliver a final file they go through multiple stages, like early drafts, feedback rounds, refining details, and then final texturing. I came across this one https://nastyrodent.com/ . From what I saw, most of the actual info is currently on the main page and mainly about their 3D modeling services, but it was enough to understand their workflow. I decided to order a few assets for my project, and the result turned out really good. Everything fit my style, and the step-by-step process helped avoid issues along the way.

Thanks a lot for the explanation! That really helped me understand how outsourcing studios work, especially the part about having multiple stages and revisions. It makes the whole process feel much more clear and manageable.

This is amazing and beautiful... Are you on Discord?

Hope you don't mind sharing your username

Yeah pretty good researches in there, that's a complete project file for a story or a small game, must have been a nice job! I like most the Ashram environment. The weapons could have had some more details tho. But cool stuffs, the red ships are also ace. Thanks.

Thank you for your compliments @haedre! I know, the weapons could have been more well detailed... I saw your work as well, its amazing! We are followers already!

This truly is an epic post. Well done!

Wow, amazing work!

Colors, shapes, silhouettes, and even tiny details like scars or accessories can reveal personality without a single word. Good game artists craft silhouettes that are recognizable even in shadow — an important trait for fast-paced gameplay. Creating a game character is rarely a solo task. It’s a collaboration between Game designers, 3D modelers etc. And you can take this from VSQUAD modeling team https://vsquad.art . This team adds a layer of depth, turning a simple sketch into a living, breathing part of the game world.
