묵시록 1,12의 그리스어 원문을 글자 그대로 번역하면 요한은 '목소리를 보려고' 돌아선다. 목소리는 듣는 것이지 보는 것이 아니다. 요한묵시록 최고의 성지 안내자
성경의 원문 텍스트를 직역하면 '목소리를 보려고'가 관세음(觀世音)이 된다. '봄'은 시각을 뜻하지만 그 본성은 인식이다. 빛이 있어야 볼 수 있는 것이지만 빛이 없어도 앎은 가능하다. 그래서 내면의 빛을 마음이라고 일컫는다. 기독교 문명의 수도자 요람이 묵시록이 쓰여졌던 파트모스(Patmos)의 동굴이 아닐까 생각된다.
