চৌ নাচ, ঝুমুর ও লাউডহরী, এই তিনটি লোকনৃত্য বাংলার সাংস্কৃতিক বৈচিত্র্যকে এক অনন্য উচ্চতায় নিয়ে গেছে। আধুনিকতার যুগে এই লোকনৃত্যগুলো আমাদের পেছনে ফেলে আসা বিষয়গুলো মনে করিয়ে দেয়। এগুলো শুধু নৃত্য নয়, এগুলো আমাদের বাঙালিদের মূল পরিচয়। প্রজন্মের পর প্রজন্ম ধরে গ্রামবাংলায় চৌ নাচ, ঝুমুর ও লাউডহরী বিশেষভাবে উল্লেখযোগ্য ধারা বহন করে চলেছে। চৌ নাচ মূলত পশ্চিমবঙ্গের পুরুলিয়া জেলা, ঝাড়খণ্ড ও ওড়িশার কিছু অংশে প্রচলিত একটি প্রাচীন লোকনৃত্য। এই নাচের বিশেষত্ব হলো এর বর্ণিল মুখোশ, শক্তিশালী শরীরী ভঙ্গি ও নাটকীয় উপস্থাপনা।
আমরা যে বিভিন্ন সময় রামায়ণ, মহাভারত এইসব এর পার্ট বিভিন্ন অনুষ্ঠানের সময় দেখে থাকি, মূলত এইসব কাহিনীর ভিত্তিতে মুখোশ পরে চরিত্র প্রকাশ করা। ঝুমুর নাচ বাংলার অন্যতম জনপ্রিয় একটা লোকনৃত্য। বিশেষত পুরুলিয়া, বাঁকুড়া, বীরভূম ও ঝাড়খণ্ড অঞ্চলে এই লোকনৃত্য বিশেষ জায়গা করে নিয়েছে। এই নাচের একটা বিশেষত্ব হলো, এখানে নারী এবং পুরুষ উভয় দলবদ্ধ হয়ে নাচ করে থাকে। এই নাচের মাঝে কোনো আড়ম্বর এর ব্যাপার নেই, সাধারণ ভাবেই হয়ে থাকে। আর এই লাউডহরী তুলনামূলকভাবে কম পরিচিত একটি নৃত্য। তবে এটি সমাজে কম পরিচিত হলেও অত্যন্ত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ একটি লোকনৃত্য। এটি মূলত পশ্চিমবঙ্গের গ্রামীণ অঞ্চলে ধর্মীয় আচার অনুষ্ঠান এর সময়ে করে থাকে।
