Gautama Buddha
Buddha, whose real name was Siddhartha Gautama, was born around 563 BCE in Lumbini, Nepal. He was a prince of the Shakya kingdom. His father was King Suddhodana, and his mother was Queen Maya Devi. He lived a comfortable and luxurious life inside the palace during his early years.
One day, Siddhartha saw four important sights: an old man, a sick person, a dead body, and a holy man. These sights made him realize that life is full of suffering. At the age of 29, he left his palace, wife, and son to find the true meaning of life. This event is called the “Great Renunciation.”
After many years of meditation and hard practice, he finally attained enlightenment under the Bodhi tree in Bodh Gaya, India. After enlightenment, he became known as the Buddha, which means “The Awakened One.”
Buddha taught the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path, which guide people to end suffering and achieve peace and happiness. His teachings are the foundation of Buddhism.
Buddha spread his message of love, compassion, non-violence, and wisdom for about 45 years. He died at the age of 80 in Kushinagar, India.
Buddha’s teachings continue to inspire millions of people around the world to live a peaceful and meaningful life.
