Chess for adults over 40
Is it too late to start learning chess seriously in my 40s? I have always liked the game but never studied it. Now I have some free time and want a hobby that keeps my brain sharp. I am not trying to be a world champion but I want to reach a decent level. Are coaches willing to teach older adults or is it mostly for kids?
It is absolutely never too late. In fact, many coaches enjoy working with adults because they are disciplined and have clear goals. I know a guy who started at 45 and got really strong. Check out chess coach grandmaster for some options. The key is finding a coach who adapts to your pace. Adult learning is different, it is more about logic and understanding systems than rote memorization. It is an amazing workout for the brain and very rewarding. You can set goals like increasing your online rating or just understanding famous games. Go for it!
