SLC-S30/W1 | CineAtlas60 : One Take Intro

Terrace view of Café Slimania during a Ramadan night in the Medina of Tunis, with the traditional sweets vitrine and the sand coffee preparation area.
Hello Steemians,
For Week 1 of the CineAtlas filmmaking challenge, my first cinematic frame on the map takes place in the heart of the Medina of Tunis during a Ramadan night. I chose an area where heritage, daily life, and tradition blend naturally: the historic Madrasa Slimania and the terrace of Café Slimania.
This place offers a unique atmosphere during Ramadan evenings. People gather quietly inside the madrasa waiting for cultural events, while just outside the café terrace becomes lively with warm lights, conversations, and the aroma of traditional drinks prepared in front of visitors.
The scene feels like a natural film set where history and everyday life meet.
The Cinematic Moment
My micro-film was recorded entirely in one continuous take using my smartphone, respecting the main rule of Week 1: no cuts, no transitions, just one uninterrupted shot.
The sequence begins near the entrance of Madrasa Slimania where people are gathered before the start of a Ramadan night event. The camera slowly moves toward the exit door, transitioning from the quiet interior atmosphere to the outside terrace of Café Slimania.
As the camera exits the madrasa area, the warm lights of the café appear. The vitrine filled with traditional sweets is visible, and behind it the preparation of Arabic coffee using hot sand, a traditional technique that has been used in Tunisian cafés for generations.
The camera continues toward the street, where Ramadan lights decorate the old Medina walls, creating a peaceful and festive night scene.

Ramadan lights, café terrace atmosphere, and the traditional tea with dried fruits (tea baklawa) served alongside Arabic sand coffee.
One of the most special traditions at Café Slimania is the preparation of “tea baklawa”, a sweet mint tea served with dried fruits inside the glass. Almonds, pistachios, and other dried fruits slowly mix with the tea, creating a rich flavor that perfectly matches the atmosphere of Ramadan evenings.
Alongside the tea, Arabic coffee is prepared in hot sand, a method that slowly heats the coffee pot and produces a strong aromatic drink.
These small rituals transform the café terrace into a place where tradition and social life come together.
Proof Video : One Take Micro Film
This micro-film was recorded using my iPhone 13 Pro Max. The video was captured in HD resolution at 60fps to keep the motion smooth while walking through the location. Because the scene was filmed at night during Ramadan, I used a small light source and kept most of the camera settings on automatic to adapt to the changing light conditions of the Medina. The goal was to keep the recording natural and stable while preserving the authentic night atmosphere of the place, all in a single uninterrupted take.
In this short micro-film (2060 seconds), I move from the madrasa entrance toward the café terrace and reveal the traditional preparation of sand coffee before turning the camera toward the Ramadan-lit street of the Medina.
The entire scene is filmed in one continuous take, capturing a real moment of Ramadan night life in the Medina.

Why I Chose This Place
The Medina of Tunis is full of cinematic moments, especially during Ramadan nights. The historic buildings, the warm lighting, and the small traditional cafés create an atmosphere that feels both calm and vibrant.
I chose Madrasa Slimania and the nearby Café Slimania because they represent two sides of the same story: the historical and spiritual space of the madrasa and the lively social life of the café terrace just outside its door.
Through this single uninterrupted shot, I wanted to capture that moment where tradition, architecture, and everyday life meet in the Medina.

Evaluation — CineAtlas 60 (Week 1: One Take Intro)
Post: @marwene — “SLC-S30/W1 | CineAtlas60 : One Take Intro” (Madrasa Slimania & Café Slimania, Medina of Tunis, Tunisia)
Evaluation Summary (Week 1)
Final Score: 9.8 / 10
General Comment
This is a near top-tier Week 1 entry: clear rules compliance, a strong cinematic idea (inside-to-outside transition), and an authentic Ramadan-night atmosphere that feels naturally filmic. The SteemAtlas pin is properly contextualized, and engagement is documented with direct comment links. To reach a perfect score, the only remaining improvement would be a tiny execution polish—e.g., ensuring the cleanest possible audio/steady motion in low light—but overall this is an excellent “first frame on the map.”

Thank you very much for this detailed evaluation and the encouraging words.
I’m really glad the idea and the Ramadan night atmosphere were appreciated, your feedback about improving clarity and audio in low light is very valuable, and I’ll definitely work on it in the next entries.
Thanks again for the support and guidance.
Dear, you wrote about the facilities and traditional food of a cafe in Tunisia. Your video was very clear. Cafes are most crowded at night during the month of Ramadan. In addition to coffee, the cafe has tea made from various fruits and leaves. You have a very nice presentation. Best wishes for your challenge content.
