CineAtlas 60 | Week 4 - Object as Character | [La silla-tronco del Parque Los Aceites / Ciudad Bolívar]
El objeto escogido y su localización
Es una costumbre generalizada aquí en mi ciudad que, los troncos de un árbol, de no utilizarse para otras cosas, se convierten en improvisadas sillas que les pueden servir a los vecinos para descansar momentáneamente mientras entablan cualquier tipo de conversación. En efecto, por aquí en mi vecindario hay varios de estos muebles, de los cuales hay uno que siempre me ha llamado la atención, debido a que allí a su lado o sobre él siempre hay personas reunidas. Este tronco mide cerca de 1.5 metros de largo y tiene un calibre de unos 80 centímetros. Perteneció al tallo de un árbol inmenso conocido como “aceite” (Copaifera officinalis), el cual se cayó en medio de una tormenta y produjo algunos daños materiales. Según los numerosos anillos de crecimiento del tronco, se nota que ese árbol fue un individuo bastante viejo, pues le pude estimar una edad aproximada de 70 años.
Este tronco y silla a la vez se localiza al borde de la calle Los Aceites, en el sector conocido como Hueco Lindo, cerca de la avenida San Vicente de Paúl, en Ciudad Bolívar (Venezuela).

La historia
De vez en cuando suelo pasar al lado de esta silla-tronco porque por allí cerca hay algunos amigos que me ayudan a hacerle mantenimiento al jardín de mi casa, y casi siempre veo que en ese lugar hay personas conversando, lo que se asocia al hecho de que es un parque de reducido tamaño que cuenta con la sombra de los árboles y allí siempre sopla la brisa, lo que lo hace un sitio confortable, ya que esta ciudad posee un clima cálido con temperaturas promedio cercanas a los 30° centígrados. Inclusive hay veces en que hay vecinos que traen una mesa y sillas de verdad y se ponen a jugar dominó. En otras circunstancias aquí se aglomeran algunas personas que gustan del consumo de bebidas alcohólicas y cerca de un par de ocasiones me ha tocado ver a hombres que se quedan profundamente dormidos debido al efecto del alcohol.
Esta silla-tronco, a pesar de que se ve un tanto incómoda para sentarse, debido a su forma irregular y a su tamaño, tiende a atraer personas, pero no sé explicar por qué se sientan sobre ella, en vez de sentarse en otros de los “muebles” pequeños que hay en el parque. Probablemente, eso se debe a que hay personas que se sienten más a gusto cuando ocupan posiciones más elevadas, tal como hacen los suricatos, animales que se la pasan erguidos mirando hacia los alrededores.
Lo cierto del caso es que yo también caigo en la magia de esta silla-tronco, ya que cada vez que paso por allí, aunque no tomo asiento, me detengo a conversar con los vecinos sobre los temas del día (problemas del vecindario, política nacional, el tiempo atmosférico, etc.).
Para el instante en que tomé las fotos y el video, había un vecino sentado sobre la silla-tronco de esta historia, quien conversaba de forma amena con un amigo que estaba sentado en una silla de verdad. En ese momento ambos ya se estaban acabando una botella de ron.

It's not only in your place but everywhere when people see such fallen or cut logs they sit and pass thir time or maybe relive their tiredness or stress. I can see two aged people taking full advantage starting from 13th second and having heartfelt discussion.
I felt it would be more impressive if you havd avoided the other chair from the scene or your video. All the best.

If you think about it as a character, the role of the tree is amazing, if the tree is alive, it provides shade, and if the tree is cut down, it is used for sitting or making furniture. There is a saw mill near our area where such cut trees are piled up and I used to sit there with my friends and chat.
Your video is beautiful, especially the moment you captured your neighbors sitting on the tree trunk, which I liked. However, it would have been better if you had filmed the tree trunk from more angles.

Very nice presentation. The wooden trunk looks very old. I really like the arrangement of sitting and chatting here. I really enjoyed watching the video, seeing the two old men talking happily.
