A Journey of Friendship, Growth, and Unforgettable Memories
Completing my three-year diploma in civil engineering, I had to go out of state for my higher studies to complete my Bachelor of Technology. Before I could go there, I appeared in a lateral entry examination held by Kashmir University to fill its vacant seats in different departments of the engineering college affiliated with it, and unfortunately for me, I could not get into the selected list. I was first on the waiting list, which made me wait here till November that year because I was hopeful that I would be able to get admission in the college, but unfortunately for me, no one dropped out, and when I realised it, it was already late. I then moved outside to get admitted to a college that was more than a thousand kilometres away from my home.
I was disappointed and excited at the same time—disappointed because I wasn’t able to pass the cut-off mark here in Kashmir University, and excited because I was going to see the outside world for the first time. When I reached Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand, I first had to stay as a paying guest, where I wasn’t happy about the food that was served, and it actually made me a little sad about my decision to move outside. But as soon as I started meeting my classmates and other college mates, it started becoming a little exciting, and I could now feel that it was a good place to stay in.
Only after I met my classmates did I vacate the PG and move with them to stay in a flat closer to the college. Here the excitement started, and from here I began becoming friends with some new people whom I was meeting for the first time. We enjoyed our time together. We shared moments, went to movies, had food together, had some warm moments. Sometimes we had some bitter moments as well, but that didn’t make our bond weak, and we used to get over it as soon as possible.
We used to play games in the backyard of the flat where we stayed and also played cards till very late at night. We went on trips to different tourist spots in that area, and we also had enough information about the best food places there, which we visited very often. We owned bikes to make our commute easy, and those bikes turned out to be quite helpful because we could see every corner of that place because of them. We knew about the markets and where different items were available cheaply, and we could buy good enough items for our use.
Anyway, we had a great bond together, and it was another phase of our life because from then on, it was not possible to imagine life without these friends. They had become a part of life, and it was true for every one of us. We continued our fun till mid-2018 when we completed our degree there, and then it was time to return home. I still remember it was quite an emotional day when we left. We started leaving one by one, and I was the last to leave along with my local friend as we had to return home together.
As we live in different corners of the valley, it became quite difficult for us to meet very often, and now we only meet on occasions. I went to one of my friend’s homes last year when he was getting married, and it was a top-class get-together as I got to see all my friends there, and it was quite a time together. Just a couple of weeks before, our friend who belongs to my village was getting married, and again we got a chance to meet. A couple of our old friends got the opportunity to come here, and it was quite a pleasure to host them. It was fun from the moment they departed from their homes until they left after spending a couple of days here.
We could again recreate those old moments by sitting together all night, cracking jokes, and recounting our old memories. I insisted that my friends stay here for some more days, but due to their vocations, they couldn’t stay as they had to attend their duties. When they left, I felt emotionally low but couldn’t do anything because these things are a part of life, and we have to carry on. Now I am again waiting for such an occasion where we would all be together and get a chance to meet. That would be something very precious for me. I hope I will see my friends once again and do whatever we like to do together to make our lives happier and more exciting.
Thank you for going through my post. Have a great time ahead.
