DO NOT USE TEFLON! aka DuPont is Ruining Lives
TEFLON is a terribly toxic material. I was reminded of this when I read this great post about how to cook without food sticking to your pan posted by @tmendieta
Using non-stick cookware is really really not good for you.
Here is a lengthy article that was published in the NewYork Times Magazine back in january. It's about a big corporate lawyer who uncovered how, for years and years, DuPont hid its purposeful negligence in the making of teflon ruining the livelihood and health of the people in a small town in West Virginia.

Seriously, read it and weep.
This is why I believe everyone should make the investment in a good cast iron skillet. They will last easily the rest of your life, and properly season they are very close to being completely non-stick.
Don't expect to scramble eggs easily in a one though. I think that is still one of the best and only uses for a non stick skillet and it should last for many years as long as you only use silicone utensils.
if you are really leazy you can bake your eggs on baking paper lol
Cast iron is great, but it does take a long time to season the pan. But with regular cookware, do as @tmendieta said to ensure no sticking, and just make sure your pan is heated first, and then, and not until then, do you add your butter or oil, then wait till that is hot, and then start to cook eggs, vegies, whatever. Voila! No more sticking to pan.
Population control tactics
Absolutely agree, you can see little flakes coming off after a pan has had a little wear so what kind of microscopic bits are coming off that you cannot see!
not necesarily, it really depends on the structure of the material. That said I don't know anything about teflon in particular except that it's also popular in europe for cooking.
Its very popular in Europe!
That's when it is time to replace your non-stick pan!
Ah! It's a feature!!! ;O)
Teflon is terrible to use, but those poor people who work for DuPont who have been poisoned for years and years and DuPont does not care. Terrible corporate purposeful negligence.
