RE: Decentmemes.com Logo Contest
That is the entire reason for promoting a new logo. I was lazy and grabbed the most known meme for the logo when I first set things up.
I'm not a white nationalist nor did I intend racism with the logo. Anyone with a pea sized brain at least would know that.
However since I was made aware how sensitive people are over a cartoon I have advocated for changing it. Also because it looks stupid.
While I agree the racism meaning surrounds the image, I think that is equally idiotic. Is pedo bear encouraging pedophilia like the news reported as well?
Good to know, and thanks for clarifying. Your veiled insult ("pea sized brain") is unnecessary; I have a larger-than-pea-sized-brain and it was not obvious. I don't know you and I don't know what you stand for; there are lots of hard-right idiots on steemit that secretly harbor disgusting racist beliefs and it was, before your clarification, unclear if you endorsed such things with your logo.
Pedobear isn't adopted specifically by pedophiles to promote pedophilia, so no. Pepe, however, is indeed adopted by nazis and is used specifically to promote nazi bullshit. You can see it for yourself all over the internet, in thousands of examples, today.
Just saw your edits. Look, symbols convey many different meaning when the context and the people using them change.
The swastika was originally unrelated to Nazis but ended up as their logo from the surplus clothing they ended up with.
The church cross has been used by unreligious groups and the KKK. Should the cross be abandoned because some bad actors used it, still to this day, as their icon?
Another user pointed out you are wearing "Nazi boots" in your Steem speak video. Are you a Nazi? Would you be a little annoyed if someone saw your damn boots and assumed you were a racist because of them? If you say no, then you either are lying or have no self defense instinct. "but I know I'm not racist so they can say what they want" ... If that's your stance wouldn't the same reign true about an icon that existed long before it's use was bastardized?
Yes, sneak, if you took a few seconds to get to know me even as an outside observer I believe you would be able to see that I'm not some Nazi white nationalist. I'm also not going to apologize for being white and won't just freely let people accuse or attack me.
Your attack was of a slightly subtle nature but not very much. "watch the replies ..." Well I replied and I am very clearly saying the decentmemes logo has NOTHING to do with racist or nationalism or any other thing people are being overly sensitive about.
And yes, the cartoon is making people overly sensitive. I have no problem will calling out racism and stopping it, but a cartoon that was created by someone and then stolen by someone else with the meaning repurposed doesn't really set me up in arms.
Finally, you are making your comment on a post that is designed to generate a new logo. There wasn't a need to say "we are getting rid of a racist logo" because the logo itself isn't racist. It is the context and intention behind it that can make it seem that way. But I bet you'd be hard pressed to find us using it in such a manner.
All of this to say, you make a good point, the logo was never used in a racist manner, some people aren't out to get everyone, and go enjoy your Nazi boots and don't sorry what people online say, pea-sized brain or not.
You should read the other comment I left. In short, your response is full of shit; it is based on the false premise that a) symbols exist independently of meaning (they don’t) and that b) people are upset/sensitive about a cartoon (they aren’t). You are deflecting from
the facts.
Iconography means things, and Pepe, these days, is a racist symbol. Use it and you can expect to be identified as a racist. It is in active and widespread current usage by racists for that exact purpose, regardless of what you do or don’t do. Fact: Most people using Pepe today are doing so to express identification with a group that espouses racist and nationalist beliefs.
You just did exactly the thing that I predicted you would do. The logo is indeed racist, and this is what plausible deniability-seeking racists say to hide behind ambiguity.
Just admit that it’s racist imagery, admit you fucked up by using it, and move on.
Just admit your boots are racist imagery, admit you fucked up by using it, and move on.
You are being ridiculously hypocritical.
There are so many sources, even the ADL itself, telling you the MAJORITY of uses of Pepe are NOT classified as hate speech. It is the context and intent of the message.
Taking a selfie with a gun isnt threatening or hate speech. Adding text telling kids at your school to stay home to it is because of the context and the intent.
I'm not sure how else to say this to you .. I used the Pepe symbol and I am not a white nationalist nor a racist, that is PROOF right there that some uses of the Pepe symbol are NOT with hateful intent.

This is the last comment I will make and the last time I will waste on this discussion since it seems you just want to start to accuse me of bullshit that you cannot prove and have no basis for. Besides the fact that I used a MEME icon for a MEME website that is about making DECENT memes. Pepe was always known as a depressive frog, therefore the acceptance of the DECENT memes and not SUPERB memes.
Now that you understand MY INTENT do you still want to call me a racist or say that I promote such ideology? Answer if you want, I am getting back to work and this isn't yielding much benefit.
You commented about a bad current logo on a post about making a new logo
Maybe you just wanted some debate.
The ADL is out of date. Go look at current Pepe usage; it's all nazis. Everyone who isn't a nazi dropped it like a hot potato the moment the tide turned about a year ago.
Nazi boots
'nuff said.
Even the actual nazis say you’re full of shit:
https://www.stormfront.org/forum/t305107/
I knew you were going to say it was wrong. You would rather defend your Nazi symbol instead of just admitting you were wrong.
When the Nazis deny they use lace color for anything we MUST TRUST THEM! But if anyone ever denies their use of Pepe in a racist way WE MUST NOT TRUST THEM.
Aka, you are selectively choosing to believe that which benefit your personal stance.
Shut the fuck up and grow up dude. Don't you have some code to be working on or something?
Flagged for linking a hate forum on my projects post.
We'd be having a different conversation if you weren't in the process of changing the logo. Perhaps you were simply ignorant of the fact that Pepe is a racist symbol, in active use primarily by racists today. Now that you know that, if you persisted in using it, it would be implicit endorsement, yes. One's individual attitudes and opinions do not define the meaning of a symbol in society.
Most people think pepe and his original incarnations pre-election cycle were fucking hilarious, you clearly haven't been around the internet long enough to know that pepe comes in many forms and is enjoyed by many people the world over.
I am tempted to say “are you fucking serious?!” but then I realized that straw man arguments involve intentionally mischaracterizing the argument made against you so that it can be ridiculed.
The cross is not a racist symbol, despite the KKK having used it. They were and are a tiny minority of users. Just like the pre-NSDAP use of the swastika. Those usages are irrelevant to the meaning of the symbol in our society. (That meaning is independent of your own beliefs and opinions, and exists regardless of whether you think it should or not.)
Pepe, today, is being used primarily by people who espouse racist and nationalist beliefs, completely regardless of your own personal opinions about Pepe. That is a fact. Use it, and you can reasonably be expected to be lumped in with them, and it will be no one’s fault but your own.
@sneak I had this very same argument with my brother when he changed his profile pic on Facebook to Pepe the frog. He claimed he didn’t know it’s use of being a symbol of white supremacy when I knew full well he did. My own brother has always been about white pride and frankly it’s disgusting!
He then blocked me and we haven’t spoken in 6 months.
This person knows exactly what it symbolizes too unless he lives under a rock which clearly, he doesn’t. He just doesn’t care.
Sorry your brother is a worthless white pride person but you subjective experience is hardly telling about all of society.
Sorry without numbers or proof, I simply brush off your point that Pepe is used primarily by people that push the white nationalism side of things. That is why I brought up your possession of the "Nazi boots" as well.
Just google "Nazi boots" and look at what comes up.
You aren't wearing "Nazi boots" to promote Naziism just like I am not using Pepe to promote nationalism. I am not sure why it seems hard to understand that despite your view of how you think Pepe (or anything else) has been used, other people are either ignorant to that particular use or just plainly dont subscribe to it.
https://www.adl.org/education/references/hate-symbols - This is where Pepe was classified that makes it fit your narrative.
Other hate symbols in the Hate Symbols Database: 12, 13, 14, 14 words, 18, 28, 38, 43, and probably all the other numbers in the world.
More about Pepe: https://www.adl.org/education/references/hate-symbols/pepe-the-frog
Kind of interesting when you use the information that Pepe is primarily used by nationalists when the Hate Symbol Database itself refutes that claim.
Btw, I find a lot of religious symbology to be hateful. I'm just not going to twist an obvious non-hateful use of the symbology into one that is on a far extreme.
You just had to ask if you were unsure how the logo was being used. Hell, had I know about any of this stuff then, I might have used it as ironic shock value.
You should use a swastika then if you are going for ironic shock value by reusing nazi imagery. It would send a clearer message and save people a lot of time on you.
I said if I had known about this childish shit I might have poked fun at it just because of how fucking ridiculous it is.
No one said I did use it for shock value so don't twist my words. I told you precisely why I used it, I responded civilly to let you know your concerns were unfounded.
You refuse to accept that something you consider bad was used without intent or context of that meaning. You are a child and have some pretty poor social skills as evident many times across this website.
Btw, your buddy @berniesanders NICELY let me know the use of the logo a couple days before acidyo made the post seeking a new logo. He agrees with you and believes the logo has been misappropriated but didnt approach the subject with accusations like you have done and continue to do even after participating in a discussion that unequivocally debunks your bullshit claim.
I have agreed the frog logo has been used for bullshit racism. I have countered by saying it originated with a different meaning, and I used it completely regardless of its meaning anyway.
I used it because it was a well known meme. Period.
The only reason you think there is more to it is because you are fucking retarded or something. Idk. Have a good day @sneak, wont be replying to your trolling anymore.
One reason I am going to quit replying is because Condenser is absolute shit when it comes to handling a post with many comments. Maybe thats something you could focus your energy on besides arguing a non issue.
People aren't sensitive over a cartoon. People are sensitive about people who say other people don't have a right to exist, which is something that reasonable people should absolutely be sensitive about. Those people are using that cartoon to identify themselves. Don't get it twisted.
What you are doing is called the “straw man argument”, being intentionally obtuse to refute something that isn’t actually real at all. Nobody is upset about a cartoon, and if you honestly believe that, you are painfully uninformed about the world around you.
