Dtube Thought: How Do We Define Virality on Dtube?/ Is it fair to base Viral Videos on Upvotes or Views? | Vlog 69

in #dtube7 years ago

I have a SERIOUS question to ask....

how do we define virality on dtube? Should it be based on highest paid posts? But what if 3 people with a large amount of SP upvoted a post that doesn't have any value but they just like the person?

Or should we define dtube virality on the number of upvotes and views?

The trending page of dtube is currently the highest paid:

We can argue that highest paid post can lead to more upvotes because it will have more exposure. Then we're having the whales determine what content gets pushed to the top.

I honestly don't know... I'm really confused by all of this.

Real talk, I have no idea. I wanted to make this video to get your perspective on this. I wanted to start a conversation about this and see what others are thinking.

So let me hear your opinions. VERY CURIOUS.

Final Thoughts:

Grateful

In the classic sense, it is of course circulation usually considered rapid. I don't think that definition changes by platform, however, we might argue what is the magic number we pick to measure it by based on the total amount of exposure.

I tend to think that it really doesn't matter. We have this tendency to measure success or failure of things constantly. I would suggest that if I make something, and it has an impact or makes a difference somehow in the life of @harshilpatel for the positive, then it is a success. Everything else is just chalked up to gratitude. The butterfly effect will take care of everything else for me :)

@captainbob, I agree 100 percent, viral is exposure.

I also see that most times when you're creating something you're doing it because you want to create it and it's fun for you. And the impact it has on your follower base

I think virality in its realest sense has to do with the volume of views and not just the number of upvotes. You're right to point out the influence of whales but that's our 'current' reality on the Steem-based platforms.

agreed my man :)

I would like to point out that virality on a platform as this, should not just be defined by the number of upvotes, as upvotes can be decietful ike you pointed out. But by views and not just views alone but also by the meaningful comments and number of people that got to resteem the video to their audience.

Take for instance, i see a video on dtube, i see its helpful and would do my audience a lot of good, so i share. Other people may think its worth their audience and so the long xhain of sharing continues, then more related comments

Yes, I think the conversations you have on the comment thread is everything. The resteem feature is what gives you the shot for content to go viral

This is a great question, my friend! Thanks for this.

Of course! I just don't know lol

good question. cant think of a good answer. Like you said 3 whales could just make any post go viral. On the other hand, new youtuber could come on and bring a bunch of minnows with him and then he/she starts trending. My opinion, I think the ladder situation is the better option. But they both have their own issues.

Yeah, I also see that this is such in the early stage that what we define as viral will change over the next few years

I think we are such a petri dish right now that 'viral' is stretching a bit - but of course resteems come into play and I still havent figures out how to see them.

Maybe it's stretching it! But the aspects and the tools to make things circulate quick is there with the upvotes and resteem. But I agree, it's still so new that it's hard to notice the resteem and such

Really good question, man! LOL'd when you just totally gave up on the "virality" tongue twister. hahaha

thank you! haha yeah I debated to cut that part out, and I said screw it, I'll keep it haha

LOL! Love that you kept it bro. Keep up the awesome vlogging! Check out my tutorial on how to make your dtube thumnail big on your steemit page :D might help

See you around, brotha!

Not for me. I'd say viral on Dtube is on "trending" and over $200 as of this moment.

I think that virality is still in numbers, in one way or another, yet the big upvotes, from what me and @minigunner were talking was more about the guidance of good content, and shaping content creators, leading them the way of interesting, and if it is a good topic to make them trend to get The Viralty! great question and this is only observation.

Artakush looks for the answer in a bush...

love your input my man. yeah the main goal of this video was to hear people's opinions on this.

@harshilpatel Hmmmmm I would think the number of views and resteem should make a post on Dtube viral. Another question I would really love an answer to is how does @dtube upvote posts. Cause it's seems certain accounts constantly get upvoted by Dtube while others are neglected. It would be nice to know if there are Certain criterias @dtube looks out for,

yeah that's a really good question. I also am curious how they upvote. I'm clueless when it comes to that part of steemit haha
