I feel one way to answer people that feel you are wasting your time with your dreams is to make them see that it's not all about the money.

Being an African, my parents see things as being all about getting money and helping with the family needs.
I know I should contribute to the wellbeing of my parents and family, but I also think I should follow my dreams.

The whole reason that you decided to pursue your passion is because it’s so much fun, right?! Don’t forget this. Have fun pursuing your dream! Your joy is contagious. Who knows, perhaps you will even inspire your parents to take up some hobbies or pursue some passions and dreams of their own.
