RE: Happy Friday and Happy Buy Nothing Day!
Hello and congrats. Yes, rain can be a good excuse for almost everything :)
Good work overall, excellent. Both for you on the app and for us getting some kilometers done.
A question - did you consider plugging in directly to some more popular web services like Strava? For example, the user enters Strava link or just the id of the exercise, which has to be publicly visible or granted to your app, then your plugin automagically fetches the data from Strava and ... voila :)
One other thing which is doable in some far, far future as a possible bonus. Connecting location data of uploaded images to the map as a link. Imagine thumbnails overlay on the map. You click on it and an image pops up.
Or, a map on a dashboard with your recent runs. Click on it and you get the report.
Or, a cumulative map of all users' events during the last day. This would make a very interesting world map. Good promo material too ;)
Ps: this was my first upvote and reply through the xhaust.me web page.
Glad to see you're using the voting and commenting in the site. Commenting especially, as it helps make us of @exhaust's VP and helps earn the project some curation rewards for voting on users comments!
I have thought about plugging directly into some other apps like Strava. I was reading the ToS for Strava's API, and it sounded pretty serious about not being willing to allow access to app that could be seen as "competitors". Given that this is essentially as "social media exercise tracking" project -- I didn't want to invest much time into that.
I've actually had this in mind for a while now. I'm getting pretty close to having mapping stable and working on my test-versions of the site. I think it would be awesome to show images on a map with your tracked run (especially for hiking activities, which I think I'm hoping to give some kind of bonus for photos taken at the summit). I like the idea of it for the dashboard summary too -- very cool idea. I definitely need to spend some time overhauling the dashboard and some other stuff shortly here.
Thanks for the great suggestions!
