Every so often I'm asked who inspires me. I'm not sure of the significance of the answer, how my inspirations could benefit someone else, as we all have different reasons for finding inspiration in other's. Maybe the benefit is a person becoming enlightened to a new potential inspiration. So, I ask other's the same question at times as it's interesting to hear the answer, and often amusing to find people don't find any inspiration at all. (This makes very little sense to me, but it's surprising how many people can't come up with a response.)

I prefer not to call those who inspire me inspirations though...I prefer the term influencer. Now, just to be clear, I don't mean a micro-bikini-wearing Instagram babe holding up a can of protein drink or doing ass-enhancing exercises in Tulum. Although they may influence a whole lot of people to want their fake lives, surgically-enhanced and photoshopped bodies and the questionable fame they portray themselves as having I don't see them as inspirational at all. Tragic maybe...Depends on the size of their floatation devices boobs and trout pout lips. Tragic certainly, but a sign of the times. There's better places to find influencers than on Instagram.

Today I'd like to share with you one of my influencers, a person who inspires me to be better, do better and simply be the best version of myself that I can be. It's my wife.

Yes, I know I can hear the naysayers scoffing already however it's true. She inspires me. You'll never know how much, or really why to be honest, because you don't know her and unless you're me you would never see the real her anyway so you may not find her inspirational.

I've known my wife for 32 years. I met her when she was fifteen years old, only four years after her father died. She and her mother had struggled to make ends meet for those four years and whilst they were not destitute there was not much left over after financial commitments were covered, you know, food, electricity and the like. We hit it off immediately though and to my great honour seven years later she agreed to become my wife. She was twenty two years old and I was a year and a half older when we were married.

Since then I've come to understand how amazing a person she is. How strong a person can be despite adversity, pain and heartache and also how fun-loving, loyal and honest a person can be. We have had an amazing life and there's not much I would change, nothing really; Each moment of our lives makes up the sum and total so taking one part away, no matter how terrible, may affect another and I wouldn't be willing to do so. Each fragment has been like a small part weaved into a colourful tapestry.

I am fortunate to have this strong woman in my life and she stands beside me no matter what. That doesn't mean she always agrees with me, far from it, however she's been the compass I've needed to help me find my way and I'm not only grateful, I'm in awe. Of course she has her insecurities, a degree of fragility, fear and doubt and when they surface I'm there. We sort of balance each other out.

It's very difficult to really explain my feelings as it would require me divulging more than I would like on the blockchain however what I can say is that this influencer is at the top of my list of influencers, and life in general. You won't get it, because you're not me, or her, however I credit this person with helping me become who I am...Not a perfect man for sure, but one who lives the best life I can and who endeavours to be the best version of myself possible. I would be different if I had not met her. Worse...Maybe. We'll never know fortunately.

I have other influencers of course, not all famous or notable, however all valued. I'd be interested to hear who yours are and why.
