Terrible trending advice I have been seeing

in #fitnessyesterday

I'm not a heavy user of social media but just like most people I will lie down on the sofa and pick up that dreaded smartphone and scroll and scroll and my attention span is basically screwed up while I am doing it. These days just watching a 1 hour show seems far too long and this is almost entirely because of the current nature of content and how we consume it.

I have in my "travels" encountered some really awful advice from people who look great and clearly make a lot of money doing it with their social media. Why do I know they make a lot of money? Well they talk about it a lot and are quite famous, although it is in circles that I don't really know much about nor do I understand how it really works. Make that money I guess. But in the meantime I see a lot of advice from these people that are not great advice at all when it comes to longevity and overall health.

There are some sensible influencers out there that I actually like, Eugene Teo is one of them and that is a still from his very good video entitled "Everybody is on Steroids."

This part of modern-day influencing should be rather obvious if you have an IQ higher than a doorknob. All of these guys are on steroids and I know this because I know people that are currently taking steroids, I have dabbled in them myself, and I know a famous female influencer who hangs with male influencers at conventions and what not and behind the scenes everyone reveals what the real secret is and it shouldn't be much of a surprise that the secret is steroids.

When i see terrible advice from these guys there are a lot of them, but these are the ones that stick out the most in my mind

  • Do not over-hydrate (IE, don't drink much water
  • Do not do cardio (what?)
  • Avoid certain carbs and eat only these kinds of carbs
  • Take various supplements that the swear is what works for them and they conveniently sell it with a referral link

There are many more bad bits of advice that these goons offer up to their audience and the sad part of this is that a lot of their followers are probably very young, very insecure, and very impressionable.

In the interest or perhaps need to create more and more content on a daily or weekly basis, they are always talking about how the "best" way to do a particular exercise and how everyone is doing it wrong! They will use their own physique as proof that they are the ones that are doing it right.. If you are an idiot, you will believe them.

One thing that a lot of them always attack is the 10-12 rep cycle that almost everyone uses in the gym. They will insist that lower reps done in a specific way are the "best" way to do it but let me tell you something that doesn't come from a scientific paper because it would be highly unethical or perhaps illegal to even study this but I have witnessed it in my own life.

If you are on a cocktail of HCH, testosterone, and Trenbolone you can basically work out however the fuck you want and you are going to see massive gains. Low rep, mid rep, high rep, it doesn't really matter because the drugs are doing the work. These gains are simply unobtainable otherwise but the influencers are not going to tell you this.

I don't know why anyone would ever want to have legs that actually look like this but you cannot accomplish this without chemical additives of the illegal sort.

So why the other terrible advice? Well there are a number of theories as to why someone would say something as stupid as "don't drink much water" and one of them is that all publicity is good publicity and by saying something so remarkably stupid, you are going to get on the radar of some more popular influencers that are going to call you out and inadvertently draw attention to your page/profile/account whatever the fuck it is called. Basically the more retarded something you say is, the more traffic it is going to generate for your account. I guess that makes sense seeing as how so many people are really dumb these days.

There is a lot of health mumbo-jumbo out there but I think we can all agree that Drinking friggin WATER is pretty essential to life.

As far as cardio is concerned I actually avoided cardio for a while in my bodybuilding days but the reason wasn't because it was going to affect my gains (if it does or not I have no idea) but because of the fact that I was incapable of cardio due to the fact that I had focused entirely on weights for years. When I did one day experience just trying to live my life and run around with friends at a park one day and they expected me to be some sort of super-human athlete because of my physique at the time but the opposite was the case, I decided to turn things around.

Look folks, I am no doctor, I am also not an influencer and I don't aspire to be one. I'm just a regular Joe that is probably in a lot better shape than most of the people I encounter. My experience is that a great deal of joy can be found in life by being able to do things that other people can't or wont and there is no denying that being able to run a 5k without much effort is something that you should be very proud of and is a good indicator that you are doing something very good for your overall health especially your heart and lungs.

No matter how many reps someone thinks you should do or how much water they think you should drink I think we can all agree that those two organs are pretty damn important.

Live with balance, get a bit of a run in, do some weights. Stop chasing the impossible figure of this looks-maxing (I wanna punch myself for even using that term) because it is mostly unobtainable without roids and even if you do manage it you are almost certainly going to lose it. Once you are in good cardiovascular shape, maintaining that is something that just kind of comes easily and more naturally.

I am older now, but honestly wish I had listened to my very own advice that I am now giving at least a decade before I did.
