I’ve been practicing straight up handstand and scorpion handstand for years. It has remained difficult. I tried this pose last year, and was surprised that I was kind of able to do it. Today, it was easy. It was much easier than straight up handstand!
Sometimes after working in one direction for months or years, trying the same thing slightly differently makes all the difference;)

Do you kick up to a handstand or do you do it more like a straddle press to handstand like a gymnast ?

I half kicked half pressed. I press in headstand and forearm stand easily.
