How to Make Tofu "Ground Beef"

in #food7 years ago

Vegetarians and vegans give up a lot of flavors, the most notable being meat. Most recipes call for meat, of all different kinds. And while I have tried in my recent posts to include lots of vegan options, I wanted to share a very easy and delicious way to make your own “meat” out of tofu.

  • What You’re Going to Need:
  1. 14-15 oz of extra firm tofu.
  2. 6 tablespoons of soy sauce.
  3. 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  4. 1/2 a teaspoon of black pepper.
  5. 1 teaspoon of garlic powder.
  6. 1 teaspoon of cumin.
  7. 1 tablespoon of almond or peanut butter.
  8. 1 teaspoon of chili powder.

Preheat oven to 400℉.

Now mix all ingredients except for tofu and oil in a small bowl. Take your tofu and wrap it in a paper towel, patting all the moisture out of it until it crumbles easily. Crumble tofu into a medium bowl, then pour soy sauce mixture over tofu and fold it in until well combined.

Grease a baking sheet, line with parchment paper and then evenly spread out tofu crumbles. Make sure each crumble is given as much space as possible and do not press them, pack them, or push them together. Try to separate each piece.

Cook for 20 minutes, then stir. You’ll notice the tofu browning, make sure to evenly space out crumbles after stirring. Cook another 20-25 minutes, until the crumbles are firm like meat.

That’s it! Tofu flavored to taste like meat! It’s not the real thing, but it’s not nothing! Enjoy and look forward to recipes using this recipe, as it is useful in all cooking!
