Drawing Strength from God – When He Is Your Source
There are seasons in life when your own strength simply isn’t enough. You can drink the coffee, make the plans, organize the calendar, smile for people… and still feel empty inside. The Bible never denies that weakness is real. In fact, it leans into it.
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” (Psalm 46:1)
Notice something important: it doesn’t say God gives strength occasionally. It says He is our strength. That changes everything. If He is the source, then you are not required to manufacture power from within yourself.
1. Admit Your Weakness
The first step to drawing strength from God is honesty. The Apostle Paul writes:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
Weakness is not a disqualification. It is an entry point. When you admit, “I cannot carry this alone,” you create space for God’s power to work.
2. Stay Connected to the Source
Jesus says in John 15:5:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
Branches don’t strain to produce fruit. They simply stay connected. Drawing strength from God is not about trying harder; it’s about staying close. Prayer, Scripture, worship, silence — these are not religious duties. They are lifelines.
3. Exchange Your Burdens
Isaiah 40:31 offers one of the most powerful promises in Scripture:
“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles.”
Renewal implies exchange. You bring Him your anxiety, fear, exhaustion. He gives you peace, courage, endurance. It may not always feel dramatic. Sometimes strength comes quietly — the ability to take one more step, make one more loving choice, endure one more day.
4. Remember Who Fights for You
Exodus 14:14 says, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
Strength in God does not always look like action. Sometimes it looks like trust. Sometimes it looks like resting when you would normally panic.
When God is your source, you are no longer a battery that must constantly recharge yourself. You are connected to an endless current. And that current does not run dry.
Draw near. Ask honestly. Stay connected. Let Him be your strength.
