How to Check Your Google Rankings in Different Countries
You rank #3 on Google. Great news! But there is one small problem: #3 where?
Google search results can vary considerably depending on location. A website ranking well in the Netherlands might be on page two in the United States and almost invisible in Australia. If your website targets visitors from several countries, checking Google from only your own location gives you an incomplete picture.
Here are some practical ways to see what people elsewhere are seeing.
1. Use a VPN
One of the easiest methods is connecting to a server in another country through a VPN. Connect to London and search Google; then switch to New York, Paris or Oslo and repeat the search.
A VPN changes the IP address Google sees, making your search appear to originate from another location. However, it isn't a perfect SEO testing machine. Google can also use search history, language settings, device information and other signals.

2. Use Google Search Console
Google Search Console is particularly useful because it shows actual performance data rather than a simulated search.
Open the Performance report and filter results by country. You can compare clicks, impressions, CTR and average position for visitors from Germany, the United States, Norway or whichever markets matter to you.
The downside? It shows historical data rather than giving you a perfect live snapshot of today's search results.
3. Use SEO Rank Tracking Tools
Professional SEO platforms such as Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking allow you to track keywords from specific countries and, in many cases, specific cities.
This is much better than manually searching 50 keywords every morning and slowly losing your sanity.
4. Change Google's Search Region
Google's search settings allow you to change your preferred results region. Combine this with language settings and incognito/private browsing to reduce some personalization.
It isn't as convincing as actually having an IP address in the target country, but it is quick and free.
5. Combine the Methods
For serious international SEO, don't trust one method.
Use Search Console for real visitor data, a rank tracker for systematic monitoring, and occasionally a VPN or regional Google search for manual checks.
That gives you a much clearer answer to the question that really matters: not "Where do I rank on Google?" but "Where do I rank on Google for the people I actually want to reach?"
