RE: Manifest Destiny, God Given Rights, and The Trail of Tears...
I didn't know what you were referring to, so I did a little research into the Dawes Rolls - it's another perfect example of the US government subjugating native populations. The thing that stood out the most (for me) is how they were referred to as "The Five Civilized Tribes" for their apparent forced acceptance of so called "civilization".
Whats more civilized - people who live off the land, using only what's required for survival, in harmony with nature - or people who will lie, cheat, and steal, exploit every resource for profit, take whatever they want, and destroy anything that gets in their way... Hmmm...
What did you mean by "rejected on the Dawes Rolls" - her tribe was rejected, or as an individual was rejected... ?
the 5 civilized tribes came from some of the most productive agriculture and wildlife rich area of the original colinies.. moved to a windy aired wasteland..."trail of tears". and the Dawes rolls where welfare and alot of indiginouse people of north america where to proud to put there mark on the Burrow of indian affairs list. and now there ancesters are missing out on all that reperasion and casino money.
A little more reading led me Here where you can search for persons accepted and on the final rolls, and the applications of persons who were rejected.
Most of the "wealthier" tribes are accepting DNA as proof of tribal heritage - as long as it shows at least a 25% bloodline... Some now accept as low as 1/16 bloodline - at least for membership and partial benefits from the tribe...
Get that dam $$$ brother...
Thanks for the comment & conversation @romanaround - I really like researching and discussing this topic... I spent a good part of my early childhood on the Six Nations Res. - one of the few non Indian's then or since... I still look back on it as the greatest time in my life...
