Steemit Learning Challenge-S22W3; Trigger Finger
Hi friends, after reading around I am interested in participating in an amazing challenge this week. The challenge is titled: "Trigger Finger" by @ashkhan following the contest link.
Previously I also invited other friends such as Mr. @irawandedy, Mr @muzack1 , and Mr @pelon53. |

What is trigger finger? Write in your own words after gaining knowledge from the lesson post. (Note: do not add any special tests or investigations and detailed handling in this question. Write the answer precisely).
Dear friends, after I have studied the material given by the teacher, I will explain a little about trigger finger (tenosynovitis). A condition in which there is pain and even swelling of the fingers that generally affects the tendons and sheaths at the edge of the fingers is called Trigger finger (tenosynovitis).
While the causes are many, the most common are the following:
- Possibly due to excessive use of the finger, which means more than normal and repeatedly.
- It may also be caused by severe trauma or injury to the finger.
- Other possible causes of Trigger finger include gout, diabetes mellitus and arthritis.
- Trigger finger is also common in people with poor posture or ergonomics.
Not only are there many causes, but there are also many symptoms. However, the most commonly found symptoms of Trigger finger are as follows:
- First of all, the appearance of pain in the finger that is likely to occur Trigger finger. The appearance of pain is usually when someone does some movements such as flexion or extension.
- There may be swelling or redness when the tendon becomes inflamed.
- In addition to pain, there will also be a clicking or locking feeling in the finger.
- If you have Trigger finger, the range of motion will usually be weakened, this is all due to the stiffness that occurs in the finger joint or stiffness in the metacarpophalangeal joint.
Now it should also be noted that Trigger finger also has stages, which can be the pre-trigger stage, trigger stage, and locking stage.
In this trigger stage there is no clicking sensation, but when experiencing this stage there will be pain accompanied by a sense of stiffness around the finger. While in the trigger stage, people affected by Trigger finger will feel a clicking sensation and even a clicking sound when they stretch a movement on their finger, examples of movements are extension, flexion, adduction and so on. As for the locking stage, the person affected by Trigger finger is already severe because usually the finger is bent and will be stuck rigidly in that position.
How is trigger finger diagnosed? Are there clinical investigations or assessment tests?
In the material, it has been fully explained that there are several methods for diagnosing those who have been affected by Trigger finger. But there are several methods that are most often used, including the following:
- Starting with a history that includes the family, then a medical history of the past days to years, as well as a history if there has been surgery.
- There will be a full physical examination usually done directly by a physical therapist or by a doctor.
- To be able to see the condition from the inside, there will be an examination with X-rays, MRI or ultrasound, each of which is useful in order to confirm the condition of the inflammation in the joints and parts that are symptoms of Trigger finger.
- Finally, there will be an examination with NCS which with the NCS process will find out the condition of the nerves because it can also be very influential on those affected by Trigger finger.
In addition to the diagnosis described above, Trigger finger conditions also have special tests in order to find out the certainty of the diagnosis. There are many special tests carried out, ranging from the flick test, notta test, trigger test, tinel test, and the last is the phalen test.
Try to practice at least 3 exercises that you have learned from the lesson. Share pictures, gifs, or videos while practicing, preferably gifs or videos.
A total of 4 exercise videos are given in the material, so here I choose 3 of them, namely: Finger Extensor Strengthening, Trigger Finger Stretch, and Massage of Finger Joints.
Finger Extensor Strengthening
Finger Extensor Strengthening Exercise is beneficial as it can strengthen the extensor muscles. How to do the exercise is very easy, we only have one rubber band that we use as a tool, which really helps provide lighter resistance. As for the exercise, the implementation is not too long, about a few minutes, the important thing is that we need enough repetitions for each finger, do it consistently either once a day or every other day or even once a week.
Trigger Finger Stretch
This simple exercise is very beneficial for the fingers themselves as it reduces tension around the trigger finger and is also important for increasing flexibility. The exercise is quite easy, just follow the movements I did in the video above. There I stretch slowly by bending and straightening the finger repeatedly. We need to note that there we must ensure gentle movements to avoid excessive tension.
Massage of Finger Joints
Massage of Finger Joints is very beneficial for improving blood circulation and reducing pain in the finger joints and surrounding areas. It is quite easy to do, just follow me as I do in the video above. In the video, I massage the base of my fingers by applying gentle and slow pressure using my thumb and forefinger. You can see that I only focus on circular and gliding movements, watch carefully in the video above.
Share your reviews after performing these exercises either on yourself, healthy individuals, or patients.
After I did the Finger Extensor Strengthening exercise, I had several experiences, including :
- This exercise will certainly give a tense sensation on the back of the hand, but the tension is still within comfortable limits.
- After doing it a few times, I feel that my fingers are more responsive when gripping or typing. I think this exercise should be made into a routine.
After I did the Trigger Finger Stretch exercise, I felt several experiences, including :
- When doing this exercise I feel that there is a very useful stretch in order to eliminate the feeling of stiffness in our fingers, especially in the ring finger and thumb.
- This exercise actually provides a sense of relaxation. So for anyone with trigger finger symptoms, this kind of exercise is perfect.
After I did the Massage of Finger Joints exercise, I had several experiences, including:
- When doing this type of exercise, I feel that it is just a normal massage but it is very pleasant and has a relaxing effect.
- This exercise is very useful in mild joint pain, because with each massage performed it really helps reduce discomfort in the hands, especially in the fingers.
- After doing the exercise, you will also feel the joints become more comfortable, especially after the massage is done.
Thank you for your attention and apologize if there are any mistakes.
@walictd
Thank you for understanding the lesson and sharing your assignment; I hope that you will enjoy this week's lesson and try to implement it in your life if you see any such case.
Observations
Task 1 (3/3)
You have shared a great knowledge about trigger finger, second name, its symptoms, cause, it's stages. That's good you add the exact name of stages of trigger finger and it's 2nd name too. I appreciate your effort.
Task 2 (2.6/3)
In the second question, you tell us about how you have to assess a patient by doing physical examination, history taking, special tests and investigations. It would be better to add the explanation of special tests. Great.
Task 3 (4/4)
You try the finger extensor strengthening, Trigger Finger stretch, finger joint massage. You did the trigger finger stretches, finger joint massage and finger flexor strengthening correctly. Always remember to apply heat pack in chronic condition and ice pack in acute condition before performing exercises to relax the muscles and reduce stiffness. I appreciate your efforts.
Overall you made a great attempt to answer all the questions. I appreciate your efforts. But next time try to avoid the above written suggestions. Keep learning and try to implement your knowledge to the people suffering from trigger finger or any type of finger issue. Thank you.

Such a well-crafted post! Your way of breaking down complex medical issues like trigger finger is truly commendable. Keep up the great work; you're inspiring many readers.
¡Holaaa amigo!🤗
