Humans aren't wired for discipline in the face of sudden fortune. We’ve all seen the lottery winners who self-destruct—the sudden weight of plenty crushes those who are used to having nothing. I never won the lottery, but looking back at my own reckless spending and wasted moments, I feel that same sting of regret.

I have read many stories about the point you are making today. But I have also read about some who have made very good use of their wealth gained through chance.
That's why I found this story very similar to what I've read. Some waste and others act prudently.
It's a question of the type of person you are. Are you a saver or are you a spender?
