What school gives you
Clearly schools don't teach everything, but they attempt to give us a pretty good scope of knowledge and skills.
On the flip side, even if your school didn't teach you exactly how to do your taxes, they taught you basic math, how to read and a way to do your very own research. Besides the tax system changes all the time, so it’s not really necessary to teach taxes to expert level, the economics basics is enough for anyone as long as they pay attention in class sessions.
I was 20 and didn't know how to pay taxes, how to buy and maintain properties, writing a CV and commutations skills with people. I think that's what they mean by it doesn't teach you anything. The secrets that'll make you super stable and also see through it all when you're getting scammed was not exactly taught to everyone in school.
School can mistakenly teach us to be mindless workers that don’t question authority. I doubt that was ever intentional. It's just the job market and college years that really does that but it is ignorance to refuse to acknowledge your lack of knowledge and refuse to grow.
Who would like a big portion of their childhood stripped away so they can sit in an office they really hate, experience intense boredom on a daily basis, all that this so they can work so hard till their 60s. Some work a lot during that age. At that age you should be doing what you love and appreciate.
And the fact that children in school have to deal with bullies becoming victims before they're adults. Who even decided to put so many kids in one classroom?
You could also argue that they don’t put somethings in your textbooks because it doesn’t serve the system that profits off control. I think I could get 3 hour masterclass of Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger which will teach me more about investing than a $150K MBA from any business school on the planet.

If I go back a bit in German history, I come across the introduction of compulsory schooling. Since then, every child has been required to attend a general education school for at least 10 years. That was an achievement! No more uneducated children who could be exploited as cheap labor. Healthy mental development, fostered by educational professionals.
Well, I think we've left that behind. In many places, schools have become mere holding pens and administrative offices, at best suited to extinguishing any remaining joy of learning in kids... There are positive exceptions, but nevertheless, the time is ripe for a shift to compulsory general education. This could be acquired in any conceivable form and doesn't necessarily require a formal school.
