RE: Keyword of the Week: FEAR (by @wlin) / Schlüsselwort der Woche: ANGST (von @wlin)
Greetings! Well, of course, without fear I would never get to know certain facets of myself; without fear, one would be overconfident and careless. Sometimes, though, I would still like to do without it. I'm glad that at least it no longer paralyzes me today.
Indeed?
Can I not balance on a high tree's branch without fear but nevertheless with ful care?
Is fear a better guide or better protection than experience and reflection?
No. Not if you put it that way, not in this example. But a certain situational fear – of darkness, deep water, precipices, attacks, illnesses, etc. – contributes to caution. It just mustn't be stronger than reason.
Fear of darkness seems to be a very good example:
The darkness itself is nothing to fear since darkness is nothing but a lack of light, and although one might say this to oneself, it occurs some emotional fear of this darkness, not of something special that might be unseen, as if darkness be a thing in itself and no thought could correct that feeling...
