What Is Dark pools?

In finance, a "dark pool" is a private market used by its participants to trade different types of securities. These are essentially parallel markets operating outside the more well-known regular markets. Liquidity in these markets is called "dark pool liquidity".

To avoid transparency in public markets and ensure liquidity for high-volume trades, several investment banks have created private markets, known as dark pools. For traders with large orders who cannot place on public exchanges, or who do not want to make their intentions known, dark pools provide a market of buyers and sellers with enough liquidity to execute the trade.

Conclusion

The apparent anonymity and its lack of transparency can also be disadvantages at the level of dark pools, the transactions being not controlled and the possibility of having irregularities. Thus, there are strong indications that there are also high-frequency trades in dark pools and that these take advantage of unsuspecting trading participants.
