RE: HOW DO WE AS BELIEVERS JUSTIFY LYING?
When people were hiding Jews in Nazi Germany and were asked out it, they lied. People who smuggle Bibles into communist countries lie about it when necessary. But unless you're saving lives or doing works for God that are illegal then you'd better tell the truth.
And yet, when hiding Jews in Nazi Germany, the father of Corrie ten Boom refused to lie. When Nazis asked him if he was hiding Jews, he replied, "Yes, they are under the kitchen table." This was the truth, but the Nazis just laughed and left. Moreover, people like Brother Andrew would "smuggle" Bibles into countries where it was illegal and "hide" them sometimes by laying them on the passenger seat next to him. Because of how amazing and powerful God is, Brother Andrew was waved through. So.... the moral of the story @barncat is that even if you're saving lives and doing works of God that are illegal, you CAN still tell the truth. The Devil is the father of lies, Jesus is the truth. Be careful who you serve.
I would warn that if you can't trust God enough to either keep quiet or tell the truth, you may want to ask Him to increase your faith. Lying is a sin. We should not sin.
