Give me back the joy Lord!

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ

Recently I was listening to the preaching of a sister of faith, in which she reasoned about how we should be if we aspired to be saints. She stated that one of the hallmarks that we Christians should manifest is to feel and demonstrate joy since we are certain that the Lord is risen and that gives each of us joy and peace.

Jesus does not want his disciples to be sad and boring people since, who will want to be with a sad and boring person? An example of this we can examine in the account of the Gospel of John of the wedding in Cana.

On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus ’mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus ’mother said to him,“ They have no more wine. ”
4 "Woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied. "My hour has not yet come."
5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”
6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons. [B]
7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheapest wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now. ”
John 2:1-10

So Jesus wants us to remain happy and committed to transforming our empty and sad lives, with a renewed heart away from bondage and vices, changing towards the truly profitable as it is to enjoy his goodness and mercy right now.

Of course the way to accomplish this is to keep us in constant prayer and supplication to the Lord, to meditate and study the Bible, to share the joy of meeting in communion with the brothers of faith and to help people in need.

Let us ask the Lord to give us the wisdom and the understanding to be joyful at all times, to provide the witness of love of Jesus.

Amen
