Week 3 of the reduce - reuse - recycle challenge
We've reached week 3 of the Steemit challenges. So far, we've been using our scraps to make placemats for our dining room table. We also made a cute and useful bracelet-style keychain. This week we're going to make a practical foldable hat, which we can take anywhere and make several to give away or sell.
The reduce-reuse-recycle challenge is undertaken to:

Let's begin with our week 3 activity in season 30.
Make a useful Foldable Hat
We will complete this activity in 11 steps:
♻️ Step 1: Let's make the pattern. Take a sheet of paper and divide it into several spaces with the following measurements. First we measure vertically ⬇️:
- 1 - Low 2.559 inches (6.5 cm)
- 2- Low 1.969 inches (5 cm)
- 3- Low 2.756 inches (7 cm).
- 4- Low 3,973 inches ( 6 cm)
- There are 0.787 inches (1,5 cm) left to make the curve.
♻️ Step 2: Now we measure horizontally ➡️:
- 1- Measure 1.496 inches (3.8 cm)
- 2- Measure 1,969 inche (5 cm)
- 3- Mesuare 2,756 inches (7 cm)
- 4- Mesuare 3,937 inches ( 10 cm)
Then the points are joined with concave and convex curves
♻️ Step 3: We join with a curve the last measurement of the box; this will be the brim of our foldable hat. The shape remains like a bell. Cut along the marked lines, and now we have the pattern.
♻️ Step 4: Now we need to prepare the materials we're going to use. As already announced in this challenge, the idea is to put the 3 Rs into practice: reduce, reuse, and recycle. This means we're going to make use of every scrap and any unused clothing. This time I'm going to use a pair of gabardine trousers that belonged to my son Samuel and which had a hole and a half in the legs. This fabric is a little stiff, so it's perfect. I'm also going to use a large scrap of printed pink and lime green cotton fabric to make the bias binding.
The first thing I did was take apart the pants and pkanchar. Then I used a pencil to mark the outline of the pattern, without adding space for the seam. This is unnecessary. D Six of these pieces are marked in each color.
Mark it in both colors you're going to use. In my case, I made the bias tape I would use on a scrap of fabric.
♻️ Step 5: The width I gave to the bias tape was 1.5 inches (4 cm). From this bias we're going to need some 157,5 inches ( 4 mts)
♻️ Step 6: Once the bias tape is ready, we begin placing it on each side of the six pieces. We place it wrong sides together, so that each piece has a right side facing out.
♻️ Step 7: In this step, we'll put our manual skills to the test. We need to join the sides of the pieces together. The stitch we will use will be the open blanket stitch.
♻️ Step 8: Once all six pieces are joined, we proceed to attach the bias tape to what will be the brim of the hat. With the bias tape in place, we can now use our foldable hat.
And just like that, we have our foldable hat.
NOTE: If you want more rigidity in your hat, just add fusible interfacing.
