The girl settles beside the oven as evening deepens, letting its quiet heat reach her before the night can. The fire does not roar; it murmurs, glowing softly, as if conserving its strength. In that glow, her face appears thoughtful, marked not by drama, but by the calm seriousness of a child who has learned to observe more than she speaks.

She holds a cup between her hands, feeling its warmth travel slowly into her fingers. It is not luxury she drinks, only something warm enough to keep the body steady. The bread she eats is plain, broken carefully, as though every piece must last longer than hunger itself. Nothing here is wasted—not food, not heat, not moments.

Her feet touch the floor without protest. Cold has been a frequent visitor in her life, and she has learned how to sit with it.
